Asik's value as a backup to this team, is not the same as Asik's value as a starter to another team. I value good defensive bigs too, especially active ones like Asik. But at the end of the day, our need for a legit starting 2 is greater than a backup center behind our 60 million dollar investment.
We get a legit starting two, who can hit threes and play good team defense. And we get a quality backup center, who's familiar with the players on the team and would give an extra offensive punch to the bench. We do all of this by essentially giving up a guy on our team who plays 11 minutes per game.
