PTI confirms JR Smith and Bulls are talking

Postby Oe00246 on Mon Jan 30, 2012 5:16 pm

Today on PTI, Bulls/Heat was the first topic, at the end of the BULLS/ HEAT comments Woody Page said Bulls and JR Smith are talking, and that JR Smith just bought a house and Chicago. Also they confirm Bulls very interested in Dwight also.

I didn't see the segment, but isn't it likely the thing about buying a house was poking fun at the LBJ house shopping rumors?

I'll believe it when I see it. I am going to stay in Bulls depression mode with all these injuries.

It's quite possible that the Bulls have a verbal agreement with him: sign him for the minimum when he's ready with the intention of signing him long-term next offseason. We've even had that discussion here about a nice way to possibly improve the team while cutting some costs: letting both Brewer and Korver walk next offseason, Butler takes Brewer's role over while Smith steps in as the leader of the second unit's offense. That would be sweetness.
Joakim Noah is better than you think he is.

so glad to hear that our FO is being proactive..JR Smith could potentially help this team out a lot, particularly as a second ball handler and instant offense off of the bench.

If its true that the Bulls are targeting JR Smith, Kyle Korver should get traded have his minutes significantly reduced for a player that can impact the game in more facets.

Although I don't know if Paige's sources are any good.

I think he meant Around the Horn because Woody Page is usually on that not PTI.

I'd be thrilled to get JR Smith. He'd instantly bump KK out of the rotation and you'd have Brewer to back up Deng. KK is nice insurance to have on the bench...

I think when healthy we're good enough to win it all as is but that shouldn't stop us from filling holes we have. The one hole we have is a legit 6th man off the bench

There has never been a real estate report that ended up false.

This is breaking news.

A hyperbolic chamber is a Realgm postgame thread.
A hyperbaric chamber will help Bulls players get stronger.

+1

If this is true, Korver should be as good as gone. 5$ million dollars for a player that can't even stay on the court due to abysmal defense, and inconsistent shooting. Much rather spend that money on a player that can create his offense (yes he's inconsistent but at least he is a player that can take you off the dribble and break the defense down), can play better defense when motivated, stands up for his teammates, can create his own shot.

At the halftime show of yesterday's game, I believe Magic Johnson said that he thinks the Bulls can beat Miami and win the championship this year IF they can find a guy to bring some instant scoring off of the bench. I think J.R. Smith could be that guy for the Bulls.

-The Heat have Cole, Miller, Haslem off of the bench
-The Sixers leading scorer is sixth man Lou Williams
-The Pacers have Hansbrough on their bench to bring some offense.
-The Magic have big baby.
-The Thunder have James Harden
-The Jazz have C.J. Miles
-The Clippers have Mo Williams
-The Mavericks have Lamar Odom

The fact of the matter is, the majority of playoff teams with championship aspirations have at least one guy that can come in and bring some instant offense to provide a spark, which often times can be the difference in the game.

I think J.R. Smith, along with C.J. Watson, could do that, without sacrificing much on the defensive end under Thibs' guidance.

How much chaos does his family have to cause in China to get him out of there?
"There are those in his camp who don't think he should play at all this season, for a couple of reasons: first, and foremost, the Bulls don't have a championship-caliber roster."
