MIAMI -- Dwyane Wade and LeBron James were only a few miles away from Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26, participating in the NBA All-Star Game on the night the unarmed black teenager wearing a hooded sweat shirt was shot to death by a neighborhood crime-watch volunteer.
They never knew the teenager, but on Friday they decided it was time to speak out.
Wade posted a photo of himself from a previous photo shoot wearing a hooded sweat shirt, otherwise known as a hoodie, to his Twitter and Facebook pages on Friday morning.
A couple hours later, James posted another photo -- this one of the Heat team, all wearing hoodies, their heads bowed, their hands stuffed into their pockets. Details of when and where the photo was taken were not immediately available.
http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamihe ... von-martinI think it's great that the Heat are helping people gain awareness of the tragedy that was the Trayvon Martin shooting. It's been justified by many people, and he still hasn't gotten justice. Thoughts?

Obviously a horrible tragedy. Florida is such a messed up place. Let's just cut it off and let it float on over to Cuba.
Props to the Heatles for spreading awareness.

Just a publicity stunt by them, they always have to be the center of attention...
I'm just kidding, it's great that they are doing this. Terrible tragedy, but even more of one that the man isn't even going to be punished for killing him.

It's really messed up. It's okay to shoot someone if they are a minority and wear hoodies? What kind of rationale is that for a cold blooded murder? The fact Trayvon was killed for looking like a gangster, and his killer hasn't even been prosecuted for anything is preposterous. I didn't know neighborhood watch captains were allowed to shoot first and ask questions later. That's a ridiculous amount of power for someone who isn't even a government official to be wielding.

Public relations move obviously. Nothing wrong with that as it helps bring more attention to the situation, and in the end it's a positive. Doesn't change my perception of the team/players though. LeBron, Wade, Bosh, etc... are nothing better or worse then self absorbed attention whores. That doesn't stop them from still doing some good deeds. It's not like this is the first good thing the Heat players have done in their lives.

It's also the case that the law is completely messed up. It pretty much legitimate's racist murders like that. I would be scared to live in a backwards ass place like that--"Shoot and ask questions later" is practically the official policy there.

I posted this picture in the "around the NBA" thread, but this is it's rightful place. I commend the Miami Heat for standing up for this dead kid. I have been debating this issue in another RealGM thread for almost a week straight. It's so much information about how f*cked up this case is, it would take me several threads to share it with you guys. Most of you would get pissed after finding out how the police have basically tried to cover up this kid's murder.

The guy was hispanic.... and I lived in Florida for twenty years, why don't you look up the law before you call anyone backwards.
One of Zimmerman's parents is white & the other is from Peru. He grew up as a white man.

Look, Zimmerman most likely screwed up here. I know this law very well. He had a duty to avoid, and he did not do that. In fact the Stand You Ground law most likely will not apply to him when everything is all said and done. People really need to look up the law before calling it racist. As a gun owner myself, I believe it is a great law. Judging form the police dispatch, Zimmerman did not follow it. And in all honesty, this a damn media circus. Lets hope it doesn't turn into another Rodney King riot disaster. Then you will really see what the start your ground law looks like.

this is an unbelievably sad incident and I commend all who support the memory & cause. The heat showed an awareness I doubt any other team will and I think that is good of them. At the end of the day, the world is bigger than 94 ft. stand up and be accounted for.

It's not the law I have a problem with. It's the way that the police handled it that is heinous.
