------------------------------------------SPOILERS------------------------------------------

I was very critical and I'll give you info on my movie going profile for perspective. I'm no critic or snob, that's for damn sure. I enjoy stuff like Transformers and super hero movies and Star Wars and LOTR. I generally accept something for what it is. ie) For Transformers I expect all action, popcorn and nothing requiring intelligence. Here I am now, entertain me. I tell my girlfriend I'd rather burn my eyes out than watch Sideways. Yeah, I'm pretty low class when it comes to movies for the most part.

After sitting on it overnight, I guess I would say that my negative reaction hasn't changed. I still think it stinks and wouldn't recommend it. I would say that I was incorrect in stating what my expectations were last night. Believe I said I had none, but reading the earlier part of this thread - I expected it to be good, and just thought it would be very solid.

It just seemed to have tons of holes and be a flimsy movie. I'm not one to go to a movie and think "that's not realistic" but yeah (and I get a kick out of the dude giving it the elbow for the laundry list of issues), it's kinda a pretty big WTF when you have the technology to put people in a state of hibernation, travel across the freaking universe and then bring out a flame thrower as your best damn weapon?!?

Ok, so that's relatively minor, but there's plenty of story stuff that's just whack.
- Like someone said - the scientists have reason to believe they were our creators because...because...because....? They don't have any reason to believe this.
- David. What the hell was his motivation for infecting the Shaw's man, and her...and then being all, you're SOL, sorry. Is this some classic way an android acts in the Alien series that I missed or something? Unless that's the case, then robot boy has zero reason to do this and it's absolutely pointless. David has nothing to gain, Shaw and hubby are no threat to anyone...it's just...why????
- David's head being ripped off and then he's still talking away and then being put into a bag and zipped up. Just seemed like some cheesy weirdness that I thought would be below this movie.
- The old rich dude. Again, his presence didn't come as surprise, his death was predictable and he just seemed utterly pointless.

SPOILER ALERT

I think that part you believe which is "utterly pointless" is what was essentially the main reason why they were all there to begin with.

Sure, he was the one who funded the entire exploration, and he probably wanted to find out about this other life forms, but the main motives were clear when he states in the movie, that he wanted to find a cue for life and aging, so he could continue to live.

As for Davids reasoning for infecting the boyfriend, seemed to also be a direct result of the "secret" orders from the boss man, to further investigate every angle. Remember that scene where Theron corners David and asks him what the boss man told her (in a scene where we, the audience don't know that it is the boss man, and not someone else giving David orders), he says something along the lines of "You need to try harder". I think it's clear that David is getting orders to use the humans as a testing format, and to do whatever it takes to discover something.

Might be wrong, but that's what I was thinking during as the movie was unfolding

Four words, fellas: The Dark Knight Rises.
"Bellineli is a better creator than Korver. And Nazr is a much better offensive player than Asik. So even if our bench is worse defensively this year, it's going to be a lot better offensively. Great job, Front Office."

1. They spent $1 trillion on the trip to go half way around the universe with a handful of geologists and failed to spend a couple of dollars on some military style protection just in case.

2. The geologists went all that way without a second thought, got on the ground, walked into a cave, then walked through some doors, and then all of a sudden two of them got scared and had to go back to ship even though there was nothing yet to be afraid of.

3. Those two geologists got lost even though they had constant radio contact with the ship, who had an exact map of the cave, and could have very very very very easily got directions out of there.

4. those same two chickens**t geologists who were afraid when there was nothing to be afraid of, all of a sudden start playing with an alien looking 4 foot snake that is even hissing at them

5. The engineers who have been in existence for at least several billion years created these "WMD's" and failed to come up with a safe place to store them, so that when someone opened the door all of a sudden all of the WMD's started leaking.

6. The ships were set to travel several light years to planet earth and the engineers decided that the best way to transport the WMD's was to space them out standing upright in tall thin vases on a flat floor without any anchor.

7. The exact DNA match makes no sense at all since we are seperated by several billion years and evolution would have changed our DNA drastically.

8. The alien that came out of the womb grew 100 fold out of thin air with no water or food.

9. There is no way that the captain would have gotten laid with that pick up line. Or did he get laid? Because we have no clue what happened because the scene just got cut off. Pick up line basically went like this:

Captain: "If you want to get laid all you have to do is ask"
Charlize: "No way in hell"
Captain: "That's because you are a robot"
Charlize: "No I am not"
Captain: "Prove it!"
Charlize: "My room, 10 minutes"

10. When they found the cave in Scotland the geologists seemed very surprised and elated that the drawing had an engineer pointing to his planetary system. As we later find out they already found 6 or so of these exact same drawings in 6 other caves and it should have been obvious by now that the drawing would have been there. Three of these drawings would have been enough evidence and there was no need to look for number 4 or number 7 or 8 for that matter.

I could type like this forever...

My dear lord. This isn't a criminal investigation it's a movie and none are perfect, maybe just try taking it for what it is instead of nitpicking every little thing. Are there any movies you do like?

I like:

Goodwill Hunting and A Brilliant Mind and out of Sci Fi I think that the first Matrix was a very well thought out film that didn't have many if any issues with the small details and seemed believable.

My god, people liked any of the Transformers movies? IMO, that instantly disqualifies one from voicing thoughts on movies generally. Not only are they stupid, but they're not even visually entertaining. You can't even tell what the hell is happening. They're literally awful on every level. They are utterly bereft of cinematic value. ETA: and their "humor" is so base and cringe inducing. Shameful. They're just shameful.

If there is a Satan, it's a sure thing Michael Bay is doing his bidding.

Also, after thinking on it a bit, Prometheus pretty much just sucks. There's no continuity, nothing makes any sense, and in the end it pretty much is just a bunch of things happening, mostly to characters we don't know or care about. It's nice to look at, it has a few good performances, and it's not totally awful, but the good is not enough to outweigh the bad.

Agree with the minority here (which troubles me)...

This movie was just... A huge disappointment considering it's from Ridley Scott. Get McG to create a Terminator and **** the franchise? Fine, that's Hollywood. Get the original director of a classic to come back and make this brain-dead crap?

I'm a huge fan of sci-fi, like even the bad Star Trek movies, love Terminator 1, Running Man, 5th Element... All sorts of guilty pleasures. The worst, filler episode from TNG, no, Voyager beats this movie. It's like a clinic in bad screenplay writing.

Prometheus was as disappointing and "bleh" as Terminator Salvation. Huge budget, talented cast... SUCH uninspired, poorly thought-out, undeveloped trash. It wasn't even scary. I haven't found any redeeming factors yet, other than the fun I've had reading and ridiculing the absurdity and non-sense in the film.

I enjoyed all the Transformers. They are entertainment movies for the visuals, not supposed to have the audience deep thinking about the plot or meaning of things. Anything that doesn't make sense I just forget because the movie is made for the action and that's really it.

I haven't seen the movie yet but my take on the negative reviews is that it sounds a lot like the original Alien movie (including the weird acting robot).

Note: For the True Film Buffs in the house, Alien was actually a "stolen" remake of the film
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It!_The_Terror_from_Beyond_Space

Why would anyone in their right mind land a spaceship on an uncharted planet with unknown life forms and then go out and go for a stroll? Wouldn't you want to have an army that was armed to the teeth backing you up? Wouldn't you leave the mother ship in orbit and send down a scout ship?

But this is the stuff that horror is made of.

IMO the 2nd movie "Aliens" was still the best of the series because after the tremendous success of the 1st movie, they had the budget and the challenge to do something better. (Yes, they did leave the mother ship in orbit! Yes, they did have an army armed to the teeth!)

The rest of them (including all of the Alien vs. Predator movies) have just been milking the genius (a life form with acid blood and a life cycle that "borrows" genetic material from infested hosts) that went into the design of the 1st Alien.
