OT - Northwestern lands Luol Deng's cousin?

Postby Irregular on Fri Jun 15, 2012 10:12 pm

Northwestern has secured an oral commitment from an intriguing player, 7-foot-2 center Chier Ajou who reportedly is a first cousin of Bulls forward Luol Deng.

A source confirmed Ajou has been admitted to Northwestern but the NCAA has yet to rule on his eligibility. Ajou moved from South Sudan to the U.S. in December 2008, making the early years of his transcript a challenge to interpret.

Maybe GarPax should draft him?

Gar lied and the bench mob died.

ESPN.com wrote of his strengths: "This extra long and lean center is very raw but tough to deal with when he is active and aggressively patrolling the lane. He is a shot changer and blocker on or away from the ball because of his great length and ability to cover ground very quickly."

And his weaknesses: "He needs to improve his strength and hands but he can finish above the rim with a clear path from offensive glass put-backs or drop-off passes. Ajou is a work in progress but has great upside and will always be a factor when he is in the game due to his size and mobility."

Sounds like a future Bulls 2nd round pick!

Good to hear we could possibly have some legitimate bigs this year. Hopefully the days of playing guys like Shurna at C and Crawford at PF are over.

Was originally planning on going to Butler but they didn't have any scholarships to offer for this upcoming year so he would have had to walk on for a year before being on scholarship while Northwestern had a couple decommits last week so hence they had a scholarship to offer for this year so that is where he decided to go instead.

Ajou is the definition of a project type player. He only averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds a game on his prep school team two years a go and when he played prep school last year he didn't even receive any type of all conference recognition. He could develop into a nice defensive specialist under the right coaching but I can't really see it happening at Northwestern. I do wish him the best though like Deng Ajou has had his own great deal of hardships just to get to Northwestern (read this article: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/news ... id=6587681)

For anyone interested in a more descriptive and updated scouting report here's a thread specifically about him on the Butler recruiting board http://butlerhoops.com/showthread.php?tid=208

But this time he did it 5-10 lbs lighter, so in theory, it was quicker.

Would he know whose team it is?

Hopefully they have those hyperbolic chamber things.

A hyperbolic chamber is a Realgm postgame thread.
A hyperbaric chamber will help Bulls players get stronger.
