Kyrv, I'm speaking completely from Red's viewpoint.
He has, on numerous occasions, complained about how the Bulls were built to be regular season champs and that they are too depth reliant. Well, the team was built like that in large part due to how Paxon used our 2010 cap space. So if Red is going to make that complaint, he can't now use Paxon's cap space track record as a means of beefing up his retool argument. That's disingenuous.
Note: I thought this team was a championship contender and not just regular season champs.
Thanks for the clarification, but I think it's fair to note that the Bulls' Plan A was not to build around depth, they made the best use of the cards as they fell.
But I see what you are saying, if we are using 2014 to get the "second star" (TM), that's a cr*p shoot and I don't think 2010 proves it can be done (well doesn't prove it either way). I see what you mean there.
I think some people (not sure on Red) are specifically targeting Kevin Love, so that's different than just saying clear the decks and see who we can get. The FA lists are actually good names however seems most would likely stay and many will be pretty old by then - so it's not a great realistic list.
I'm not certain the Bulls aren't going for 2014 (random aside), and every year good players are traded that seems a more likely option (still of course not a given, everybody wants stars).
Edit - I hope the players are remembering this summer for the next talks. Not really a convincing show of "we don't have any money" by the league in general.
And we may have that in 5 years which would absotively suck eggs.
