Re: OT: Grammer School Shooting in Connecticut
At least one person is dead after a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dickinson Drive.
Police said there are multiple shooting victims. They were still searching the school at 11 a.m., and police dogs had been brought in.
Sources said a person believed to be a shooter is dead. Earlier reports of a second shooter are unconfirmed.
Shortly after 9:40 a.m., police reported that a shooter was in the main office of the school. A person in one room had “numerous gunshot wounds,” police said.
Groups of students — some crying, some holding hands — were being escorted away from the school by their teachers. Some students were still in the school at 10:30 a.m., parents said.

I previously locked this thread. At the time the reports were three wounded, shooter dead. A poster pm'd me to detail the extent of the tragedy now reported. Discuss away.
Once a pickle, never a cucumber again.

Re: OT: Grammer School Shooting in Connecticut
After this, we might have to get metal detectors standard at every and any school. 20 Children, K-4th about 8 teachers. In supposedly one of the safest places to live in this country and one of the gunners' children went to the school. Imagine how that child as well as those families are going to grow up now, all close to the holidays.

I would be in favor of metal detectors, maybe not in grade school, but definitely in all High Schools.

Re: OT: Grammer School Shooting in Connecticut
How do you get so mad that you go to a freaking elementary school and start shooting kids? What the **** is wrong with people in this country?
Apparently the gunman shot them with a .223 rifle...which is legal. **** has got to change real **** quick

Arm nobody. Obviously. It amazes me that such a discussion is still relevant.

One of the killers:
24 years of age. Wore a bulletproof west, carried four firearms.
This was not some act of random violence. This was premeditated.

What kind of twisted **** pre-plans shooting up an elementary school? And better yet, who's the person who sold him all this ****?

Re: OT: Grammer School Shooting in Connecticut
There are no words.
There's no way to prevent this kind of tragedy; you can't stop evil every time; tighter gun laws might help, but I'm sure Connecticut has pretty tight gun laws, and New Jersey's (where the killer is reportedly from) are among the strictest in the nation. But criminals can get guns. And even without.... (A knife wielding nutcase slashed 22 kids in China today.)
There's a darkness in American society, some sort of nihilistic narcisism, that devalues the lives of others to people. I don't know what the root cause is, and I don't know how to address it, but, completely unscientifically, I "feel" it... it's everywhere; in how people treat each other on the road, on how lawyers act in litigation, or how many businesses rip people off.
To me, this tragedy is maybe a symptom of that darkness. I just wish I had a clue about what can be done.

One of the craziest and worst things I've ever heard. Wow. 27 dead, mostly children.
