Denver wasn't fleeced, I just find it kind of comical that nobody beat Cleveland's offer. His value was low but Mozgov was a fairly known commodity, but he wasn't getting the opportunity he deserved due to all the log-jams, coaching changes and locker-room turbulence.
Ultimately, it always comes down to this -- teams that over-value their draft picks (cough, Chicago) don't make the moves needed to really become contenders.
I'm not saying to pull a Brooklyn Nets and mindlessly throw away lotto picks for the next 5 years for very questionable acquisitions, but sometimes it's better to get the mid-level veteran rotation player over a Snell, McDermott or worse yet, Teague. If these guys pan out, it takes 2+ years before they contribute at a high level, and in that team, you can easily clear for cap-space to acquire the player you want.
The Cavs gave away 2 first round picks for a backup C. Not sure how much more another team was going to give them.
I think 2 1sts is a little misleading. They are both at the end of the first round. It's not like they got lotto picks. The chances of the Cav's drafting a serviceable center with either of those picks was slim.
Jimmy Butler was a late first round pick.
