I disagree with the notion of experience means "he's forgotten more basketball than you'll probably ever know". 15 or 20 years ago DeAndre Jordan would've prolly won DPOY because people back then thought if you get a ton of rebounds and blocks you're an incredible defender, they didn't know about defensive rtng, points per possesion or any rim protection stats, same thing with 3 pointers, you hear a guy like Byron Scott saying 3pointers only take you to the playoffs not championships.
Old guys who haven't adapted just don't know basketball now a days, and if you think Wall is not a PG, well that's pretty self explanatory. You can be an excellent reporter and writer and have no idea about the game because you can have great sources that feed you great quotes and you can have great people skills to get guys to open up to you during interviews. Still doesn't not mean your opinion about basketball should be taken seriously.
When even Sam Smith promotes it how can the Big Bad Bulls myth be stamped out?

Nothing about Sam or your comments.
But, based on new era of basketball ...shouldn't a PG be a good shooter? Can you call Wall a good shooter even compared to a rusty Derrick? Can he fit into new offensive systems where the PG is not just a distributor but also a shooter?
He might be elite in his speed, finishing to dominate many average PGs but if he doesn't shoot well consistently, he will struggle to be ranked as a top PG.
You cannot take a one line statement or even a paragraph and start throwing mud at the person.

I'm not throwing mud at any person, I'm saying you shouldn't care about somebody's opinion based on experience as a writer/reporter. I'm saying you can be elite at one and terrible at the other and giving you an example of how his opinion is nuts sometimes.

You think that because you understand advanced stats you know basketball better than guys who have been watching games and reporting on them for decades? Your post reeks of immaturity and ignorance of the game. As was stated, Sam Smith has forgotten more about basketball than you will likely ever know.
Jordan and Pippen were recognized as all time great defenders almost 30 years ago. Was that because people thought if you got a ton of rebounds and blocks you were an incredible defender?
That may be the most ridiculously put post i have ever read on a message board.

Good one, written by an OLD guy himself but I do know, from personal experience, that you don't care about a poster's age when it comes to dissing him.

and he would be correct. you need it but cannot rely on it. A great defense, an inside game, chemistry, great passing, penetrators, relatively good health. and a lot of luck is needed as well. No team who has ever relied on three pt shooting has ever won a title.

Hence why he's a hack. No actual media company wanted him anymore, so he had to go work for the Bulls and be on Bulls.com. They don't even like him to do TV apperances.
lol.. He's been with the Bulls for 36 years now. He didn't HAVE to do anything.. The man is independently wealthy. He's had a couple NY Times Bestsellers.. if you know what that means financially. He works cause he loves it.
Sam is certainly not a "hack".. Granted, he is old and says some crazy things sometimes (I think for reaction or attention) these days... you are entitled to your opinion but you really should read one of his NY TIMES BESTSELLING books. That guy has been around the Bulls since probably before most here were born.. He's forgotten more basketball than you'll probably ever know. The man has sold million copies of books, has been writing about the NBA for decades. He won the Curt Gowdy Award and is in the Naismith Hall of Fame as an NBA contributor.
The disrespect that some very accomplished people receive around here is appalling .
He's covered the Bulls for 36. He's only worked for them for 8 now. And don't judge too quickly as I've read a ton of his works over the years. I once thought he was the best Bulls beat writer there was. Things change.
He's not the first one to take a team job after losing his fastball. He was a really great writer for about 25. "Jordan Rules" is a great book. He was great at the Trib. Not so much anymore. No one said he didn't make money or that he had to do "anything". I fail to see how any of that is relevant now to his ability and current lack of objectivity. He NOW is a company schill. And anyone who reads his old works and reads now and doesn't see a drastic difference are fooling themselves.
So if that's "disrespect", so be it. It's the truth.
