Harden is the only superstar, and franchise player in this group.

None of the players on this list are currently franchise players, and IMHO, only Oladipo has a chance to get there.

It wasn't that long ago that you'd be able to choose from

Kobe
Wade
Ginobili
McGrady
Pierce
Allen
Carter
Redd

We will probably never see a generation of shooting guard talent like that ever again.

Wow - if you put it that way, that is a pretty impressive set of SG's.

I would even drop Redd and add Rip to that list. Just a bunch of supremely talented 2 Guards with most of them being multi-dimensional, 2 way players.
For love, not money.

Beal must have read my post!

http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/25280120

Bradley Beal wants a maximum contract extension, but the Washington Wizards reportedly won't give him one. They plan to make him play out the 2015-16 season then hit restricted free agency, according to CSN Washington's J. Michael Falgoust:

"Bradley Beal has made it clear he thinks he's a max player and that's what he wants. I've talked to people on both sides all offseason about this. It seems to be Bradley Beal's decision. The Wizards are willing to make him an offer, an extension, but they're not going to offer him the maximum extension right now simply because they don't have to. They can say, 'Bradley we want to see you play a full season, prove that you can stay healthy and play an 82-game season the way you played those 10 postseason games,' where he was spectacular. He didn't have a great third season, so maybe this can be motivation for him."

Butler over Klay after the egg he laid all NBA Finals
Kris Bryant will go down as the greatest Chicago athlete after MJ

its no order when it comes to the sg's ony true number 1 is harden. everybody else is capable of being the 2nd best. harden still isnt a defender or did ppl forget about that. but hes number 1. wade or kobe could also be number 2 still. klay and butler are neck and neck. klay had a struggle in the finals but hes still a 3rd or 4th option for the top 5. you score 37 points in a quarter you shouldnt be tooken lightly. jimmy is a defensive nightmare for any guard/forward. he vastly improved his offense last season. hes most likely to be number 2 if not 1 if he continues to improve. but the same can be said for klay and derozan. beal is very good. i think hes better then wall as a scoring option. but as a bulls fan id like to see butler get bigger and move up to sf and snell can put himself in the top 5 sg quest. if jimmy can pull it off then its possible for snell if he has the drive to get there.

Good call.

I would say it's:

Harden
Jimmy (kind of bias pick)
Klay
Wade
Green

Statistically, Butler is no lower than #3 in the whole damn league and a lot of what Butler does really well isn't readily quantifiable.

This truly delights me. That is all.

Jimmy is locked in at 2 or 3 for the moment. The SG position is pretty weak these days. My how I miss the days of Jordan, Miller, Drexler, Houston, Richmond, Sprewell, Steve Smith, Drazen, Kendall Gill, Ron Harper, damn the 90's were stacked...still had Eddie Jones, Calbert Chenney, Kerry Kittles, Jimmy Jackson..... and to think people say Jordan had no competion.

1. Harden (duh)

2. Butler - Iguodala got Finals MVP for defending Lebron...Butler did a better job on Lebron than Iggy. Butler also did an amazing job on Lebron when he was on Miami. And post AS break, Butler shot 52% from 3...better than Klay's 43% (obviously more volume from Klay). When looking at athleticism & defense (and Klay is a good defender), I'd put Butler #2.

3. Klay
4. Danny Green
5. Korver - He's actually much improved from when he was with us, he's more than just a streaky spot up shooter now.

* Wade/Kobe/Manu are all up there when healthy, but that at this point I don't think that's realistic for an entire season + playoffs anymore.

I agree with Jimmy over Klay, but not because of the Finals.. Klay just went cold from deep but he played well. His D was very good, he rebounded his position well. He helped his team get big stops when they needed them. He spaced the floor. His 16 PPG 4.3 RPG and his solid, consistent defense on Clevelands guards, would have made him one of the best players on the Bulls against the Cavs... not sayin much, but still.

The 90s certainly more stacked at the SG. It had more tier 2 and 3 SG talent.

Tier 1. Only MJ and Drexler belong here. I considered Reggie and Richmond here, but they are borderline at best. Harden is the only SG today I put here. I would put Kobe and Wade here only if based on reputation. But in reality with Kobe you don't know, Wade today is only tier 1 occasionally.

Tier 2 and 3 was kinda mixed in the 90s. Here the 90s have a bunch of players. Surefire Tier 2: Reggie, Richmond, Dumars, Spree, Steve Smith, Petrovic. Borderline Tier 2/Definite Tier 3: Ron Harper, Jimmy Jackson, Hornacek, Majerle, John Stark, Kendall Gill, Nick Anderson, Hershey Hawkins, Alvin Robertson, Vernon Maxwell, Eddie Jones, Kerry Kittles. Today's SG, I'd put Jimmy and Klay both in the surefire tier 2 list. Derozan, Beal, Monta, Wes Matthews, Middleton in the mix here between borderline tier 2 and average tier 3.

There's also a bunch of tier 4 guys who are usually either shooters, scorers or defensive specialist. Guys like Blue Edwards, Stacey Augmon, Kevin Gamble, Dell Curry, Shandon Anderson, Doug West, Byron Russell, Chris Mills, Anthony Peeler, Calbert Cheaney and many more.

Tier 4 and some Tier 3 were really no competition to MJ.

I think the golden era of SG is sometime between 1998 to 2008. I mean these guys at their prime
Kobe, Vince, T-Mac, Wade, Ray Allen, Brandon Roy, Joe Johnson, Rip Hamilton, Finley, Jalen Rose, Redd, Stackhouse, Allan Houston, Manu Ginobili. We can probably throw Iverson into that list who played SG next to Eric Snow, Gilbert Arenas who was more of a combo guard, Paul Pierce played some SG in his younger days.

His consistent solid defense against JR Smith and Shumpert (certified brick-layers) was real real vital to the Warriors success

Unfortunately, not against us. They had like a .700 TS% in our series. But, that is partly why Iggy was Finals MVP.. Klay didnt have to guard LBJ, like Jimmy did.

That's what cracks me up about the Cavs players/fans excuse making..They think because Cleveland was able to win a couple games early in the series, that means they would have dominated with Kyrie and Love..What they don't get is just how awful two of the warriors key players were in that series..Bogut and Thompson..So if excuses is your game, then it all evens out and we win in 4,5 or 6 if everybody on both rosters played up to their usual standards..

Chicago is my East pick..I really thought you guys had it last year..But now finally you're bringing in a 21st century offense. I put down 100 bucks on the Bulls winning it all..
