The MRI exam on Jimmy Butler's left knee injury confirmed a strain, according to the Bulls.

Butler will miss at least Saturday's game against the Timberwolves and very likely more games. The team said in its release that "the timeline for his return to play will be determined by further evaluation in Chicago and his response to treatment."

Butler suffered the injury in the second quarter of the Bulls' loss to the Nuggets on Friday night in Denver.

Butler is scheduled to appear in his second straight All-Star game next weekend in Toronto.

Wasn't Noah's shoulder originally diagnosed as a strain? :/

We really avoided a catastrophe. Really thankful it wasn't worse.

But my idea still stands. Just start the process of blowing up the dead weight and have a real contender next year.

I missed the game and hadn't checked the box score until about 10 mins ago. HOLY CRAP did the last 10 minutes suck. Glad to hear it is just a strain.

Seriously, give Jimmy a week or two weeks off.

There is nothing to gain by bringing him back early and risking injury again - this team is in no mans land and going nowhere.

*wipes brow*

Hope he's back next month. Tanaka, please don't clear Jimmy this week. :noway:

Also, I hope this isn't another case of Bulls misdiagnosis. I mean, seeing as it's only happened 3 times, I doubt it'll happen again....... but.....

lurked some boards on the topic last night, some folks are disappointed today.

I would sit Jimmy out till after the all star break. But happy for the good news.

That's a relief. Hopefully they keep him out until after the All-Star break. He'd only miss three games while getting nearly two weeks to rest up.

Then again, if he thinks he feels up to it, I bet it would be hard to convince Jimmy to skip the All-Star game.

Jimmy Butler Status: MRI shows knee strain

You can spot an ACL by a couple physical exams alone and its probably the first thing they did in the locker room, the MRI just confirmed it. So when nobody was alarmed last night by it they already knew it wasnt an ACL

Great news! Acl was ruled out last night but was very worried about the "pop" even if it wasn't obvious what it could have been (pcls don't usually audibly pop but can).

Everything and anything on Noah or Rose is a problem.

Butler is a normal NBA player, if not more rugged than average.

Those two are as brittle as cheap wine glasses from Target.

They probably did the MRI wrong, I say sit him for a couple weeks just in precaution of our own med staff.

What are the chances that one of the following happens:

1.) Butler's injury ends up keeping him out twice as long as expected, despite being a "non-issue".

Or:

2.) Our medical staff clears him, and he immediately worsens the injury.
