Last week in a surprise, former All-Star left-hander Dontrelle Willis signed a Minor League contract with Cincinnati that also came with an invite to big league camp. Willis will try to resurrect his stalled career by earning a spot in the bullpen.
Willis could be potential insurance if the Reds aren't able to re-sign free agent Arthur Rhodes. A Type A free agent, Rhodes was not offered arbitration last week, but there is still a desire to bring him back. Also denied an arbitration offer was shortstop Orlando Cabrera, whom the Reds are less likely to bring back with Paul Janish poised to be the regular.
