After Sunday's 9-7 win over the Cardinals, the Cincinnati Reds had an issue to address. How much longer could they afford to wait for Aroldis Chapman(notes) to find his control?

They'll have at least two weeks to work with whatever mechanical issues might be plaguing Chapman. But it also appears that injuries were part of the problem. The Reds put him on the 15-day disabled list Monday afternoon with shoulder inflammation.

While Sunday's win increased the Reds' NL Central lead to 1 1/2 games, it came almost in spite of Chapman. Unable to find the strike zone, he looked ready to hand the game to the Cardinals.

The club can't give up on a guy they put so much money into. The kid has talent, there's no question about it, it has been a control issue. When he's on, he dominates, when he isn't, it's ugly. Maybe the injury has had something to do with it. Maybe he has felt uncomfortable for a while and just tried to ignore it. We will have to wait and see, but you can't bail on a guy you put so much effort into getting.

He was pretty bad in quite a few outings in a row, so I hope he gets it going again. I think one of the problems is that he would sit 5 days before he would get his number called, it is difficult to stay on top of your game when you aren't getting much action.

chapman went down to AAA, and partly got it squared up, but on his return he's 2 K's an inning and not excessive BB's.

Rather than throwing mostly 101-105....now hes more in the area of 98-101....still FAST but more manageable. A 92 mph slider...is also a NASTY pitch.

Update...curently Chapman is 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA and he's not walking hardly anyone. Often he mows down the inning and nobody even puts a ball in play.

While I reckon he could zoom one at 104 mph, instead he's throwing around 97-101 with a slider that can hit 91 mph. However...he's throwing nasty strikes. Can't remember anyone being so unhittable.

Chapman is an amazing player with great potential. I believe the Reds selected the best pitcher prospect in a very long time.
