Marlins Get N. Johnson

Post#1 » by zilby » Fri Jul 31, 2009 9:35 pm

The Marlins have acquired first baseman Nick Johnson for the Nationals for Class AA left-hander Aaron Thompson, according to a major-league source.

The Nationals will pay the approximately $1.8 million remaining on Johnson's salary.

Johnson is a free agent at the end of the season.

HUGE move. -- Means Bonafacio goes to the bench where he belongs, and Cantu moves over to 3B.

Nice. We were desperate for another competent bat. Also shores up the infield. Johnson may not bring us power, but he has definite plate discipline which our team definitely lacks. Hope we finally send Bonifacio to the minors so he can learn not to play like an idiot.

Great trade for the Marlins. Bonafacio is better off on the bench, where he can come in for a slew of positions.
