Astros Offseason News

Post#1 » by Mr. E » Thu Jan 15, 2015 8:33 pm

The Astros are making some moves to get the 2015 roster ready to go! Is this the year they go back over .500?

In a major course change, Luhnow has traded three of his top prospects (Rio Ruiz, Chad Foltynewicz & Andrew Thurman) to the Atlanta Braves for Evan Gattis. Gattis is expected to play Left Field after spending most of his career as a Catcher.

Two of the Astros other top prospects, Carlos Correa & Mark Appel, have been invited to the Major League training camp.

In other news the club successfully avoided arbitration with Chris Carter as the two sides came to an agreement.

Houston's home opener against Cleveland has been picked up by ESPN and it will air nationally on April 6th.

As of right now the Astros do not have a losing record in 2015! Go Team!

They added some much needed help to the bullpen and another legit power threat to the lineup, so far the roster is actually beginning to look like an actual MLB roster for the first time in years!

Some folks seem to think the addition of Gattis might make Castro expendable(or perhaps if Singleton disappoints we could see him split time at 1B/DH with Carter?), so it will be interesting to see if more trades are to follow.

I don't know how much improved they will be this year, but they are finally becoming relevant again after so many miserable years o rebuilding and hopefully we will see them get back to .500 or better this season or next. It's definitely a good time to start paying attention to our beloved Astros again!
We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.
