Puig, the new Mondesi

Post#1 » by Black Watch » Thu Jun 5, 2014 10:51 am

Puig reminds me of a Dodger from the 90s—Raul Mondesi. It's the speed, the arm strength, even similar swings that remind me of Mondi.

Yes and No.

Mondesi was as powerful as Puig, more fundamentally sound in the outfield, but Puig has much higher ceiling. Mondesi was a good defensive outfielder with a canon arm, but Puig can match his arm strength minus the baseball IQ for now, but I would expect that to improve in time. Mondesi was never a .340 hitter and a career 815 OPS guy who never hit higher than his single season best .901 OPS guy in his career, where as Yasiel in his short career in his young age, so far is nearly a 1.000 OPS career guy with still a plenty of higher upside left in him.

Puig is closer to Sosa than Mondesi imho.
ehhhhh f it.
