not surprising.

I actually questioned whether he was on PED since his miracle jump in his performance last season, because he did not fix any of his weakness in his game. he did not suddenly become a patient hitter, he wasn'y any better base stealer, in fact gotton worse in terms of success %. he was still the same careless swinger, and his swing didn't become more compact either. his OBP was still 0.020 higher than his BA as always. only change, was his BABIP and it was incredible and it can always be a luck factor but also can contribute to being slightly more powerful enough to muscle a weak grounder into a line drive and a line drive infield out into a gapper to the outfield. his SLG since coming into the majors, went from toiling away in the low .300 to back to back .high 200 level to suddenly jumping up past .400.

good for him tho, that one year secured him a guaranteed 49 million dollar contract, and if the fish or whomever eventually trade for him picks up that 14 million dollar team option, that becomes 63 million dollars. for him, PED was worth it as long as he doesn't do it and gets caught again to lose his money after a ban.
ehhhhh f it.

The fact that this team doesnt hit is in their head.

Another Hatchet Job

Post#827 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 30, 2016 4:39 am

Chris Hatcher gives up a 3-run HR to Matt Kemp on an 0-2 pitch with 1 out in the 8th inning. Geez, man. This is becoming a routine for him.

the problem is not just that he is giving up homeruns, but the context of it. with 0-2 count, he should be throwing somthing that might temp the batter but couldn't possibly hurt you if he swung and made contact. a down and out slider, up and away fastball outside the zone, a nosediving breaking ball down inside nearly bouncing off the dirt, but his pitching sequence is not appropriate. both the means and end are terrible for hatcher.

Might be time to admit defeat with Hatcher.

This is a really awful stretch, one I can't just sweep under the rug by saying that it is early.
He was supposed to have figured this out at the end of last year.

Does Hatcher Have Amnesia?

Post#830 » by Ranma » Sat Apr 30, 2016 4:51 am

That's the thing with Hatcher. He seemed to remember to mix up his pitches more in the 2nd half of last season to get back to form. For some reason, he's repeating the same bad habits that got him into trouble.

Hopefully Montas is the answer.
Hopefully he can touch 101 on the gun for this team coming out of the pen and nothing is zapped from the rib removal.

We're now .500 at 12-12 and probably going to go below if this trend continues.

I don't want to see Carl Crawford in the lineup anymore.
He's old and can't hit and while we're trying to get off the interstate (that the saying?), I don't want his automatic O-fers in the lineup.

Even better.

As soon as our 7 game homestand is over, we're off to see the AL East.
2 in Tampa and 3 in Toronto.

Should be a breeze getting Ws out of those series.
We've always done well at interleague.

Somebody, someone...please give me a word of positivity.

Tell me the drought will end soon. Tell me this team will eventually hit.
Tell me the bullpen will be consistently good.

smfh.

come on dude, you are an educated man, and this is baseball. streaks always dominate one way or another in every season. 5 game losing streak in April? it only means we may have a 7 game winning streak in May.

more so than any W or L streaks this early in a season, I am more concerned about ht struggles of Turner, Crawford, and Kendrick and our reluctance to keep playing them. I know Seager is the SS and he should be, but a few nights every now and then, maybe we can play Culbertson at SS and move Seager to 3B and **** stays in LF rather than playing **** or Kendrick at 3rd with Kendrick or Crawford at LF. I am tired of wasted bats from especially Kendrick/Crawford combo as of now. I would not be opposed to giving them a AAA assignment to get their form up to par with some fake injury rehab assignment.

I hate to say this, and you guys all know my disdain for AJ Ellis. Grandal can hit so much better, he is a superior framer, and he is a decent catcher overall, but my god I hate his game calling at times... if there is one thing AJ is better than Grandal at, it is pitch to pitch game calling.

with 0-2 count with two outs, there was no reason to give Norris that high fastball knowing a rookie right hander might miss that just a little too inside... I was telling my wife it better be a ball and preferably low and inside but if he couldn't locate confidently, it should be a foot wide pitch outside..... and he just pitched and located a beautiful slider just before.... damn it.

Are We Trying to Get Swept by the Marlins & Padres in Back-to-Back Fashion?

Stripling just gave up 3 consecutive doubles in the 3rd inning with the last two hit sharply to the same spot in the gap between LF and CF. We're down 2 - 0 right now.

Chase Studly

Post#838 » by Ranma » Sun May 1, 2016 2:06 am

Utley continues to be studly for us this season. He just tied up the game with a 2-run shot to lead off the bottom of the 3rd inning. Seager follows up with a hard-hit ball to RF that was lost as an out due to the defensive shift playing him to pull the ball.

Chase understanding the count with 2-1 with no out with a runner on first, he was aiming for a fastball but Rea missed the location and the count was 3-1. just told my wife the next pitch is gonna be an another fastball and Chase should be aiming for it, then boom!!!!

game is now tied 2-2

gotta love this game.

Carl hits a damn triple! too bad they will walk Joc and face the pitcher with two outs.

but glad to see him actually get a good bat on the ball and run around the bases like his life depended on it.
