The players feel like components of a championship worthy ballclub. I'm not saying they're going to win it this year as it is a matter of performance, but I really do like the overall look of this team. We just have to perform to the best of our ability.

Now just don't get cute and start playing A-Gon just because he's a vet. If he performs, I'd love to continue rooting for Adrian Gonzalez but I don't him to become Jimmy Rollins to Bellinger's Seager. I still want to get rid of Andre Ethier and if we can cash in Verdugo and Calhoun for another key piece, it'd be near perfect for this season.

By the way, somebody give Turner Ward a raise.

Had this exact same thought.

While I wish we had 5 200 IP sub 3.50 ERA starters, that's not realistic. I still, however, generally like the make up of the team. I love the emphasis on locker room.

Looks like we have a real team and not just a collection of good parts that make us overrated.

Like I said before.

This team can do better than Utley and Baez.

Particularly Baez.

I'd rather cut the fat. Our search for a replacement in both cases couldn't end up any worse.

I've been critical of Baez in the past, but he's showing progress in trying to incorporate his other pitches instead of relying only on his fastball. I'm actually encouraged by his improvement, but he just needs to show more consistency in the usage of his pitches.

Utley may seem like a bit of a waste of a roster spot, but I still like having his veteran presence in the lineup, especially with his baserunning instincts. He does play too much for my taste even in a reserve role but he's a luxury we can afford for now. Chase at least came up with a big double tonight.

I've had more problems with **** recently. While he's not struggling at the plate as much as last season, he's still not good with the bat and his defense in the field has been terrible. He's misplayed balls in each of the 2 games against the Pirates so far to spoil great pitching performances by Wood and Urias. What good does this guy serve right now outside of team cheerleader/mascot?

Heart breaks for Andrew Toles.

Awesome story on the cusp of solidifying his reputation as a big leaguer.

All that put on pause with questions about him still lingering.

Andre Ethier time?
Another guy I wish we could just move on from.

Baez is a quality arm to have, he is just not clutch in high leverage situations yet.

I want to start Turner as our lead off. his .446 OBP is just too good to waste in the least important spot among the top 4. I want to see Tunrer-Seager-Puig-Bellinger for our top 4. I know Puig's stats doesn't seem to warrent this move with his BA but he is leading this team in HRs and RBIs from a very unfavorable spot in the lineup. his SLG% makes him the ideal all or nothing hitter while #1, 2 can set the table and have Cody clean up. Puig has speed to beat out GIDP too.

I am looking forward to whom makes the 5 men rotation come this weekend.

For Whom the Bell Toles

I feel bad for Toles as well and I appreciate his effort in trying to preserve the no-hitter for Urias last night, but I can't help but notice that his tentativeness in the outfield led him to some awkward fielding attempts. I believe he made a catch earlier in the game (or was it the day before?) where he jumped up to get the out but he still had room to spare from the wall.

Likewise, he was overly concerned in fielding the ball that broke up the no-hitter. It was a well hit ball, no doubt, but Toles would have had it had he not prematurely slowed up and then tried to stop himself from hitting the wall. I don't get why he didn't just decelerate and just let himself hit the wall given the padding in that area. It's not like he was in Wrigley Field or something. It certainly would have been less damaging than tearing his ACL.

In any case, the silver lining is that this now opens up a starting spot in the outfield for Cody Bellinger to get regular playing time if and when Adrian Gonzalez gets back from the DL to avoid sending down the phenom back to the minors.

looks lke Maeda secured a spot in rotation tonight.

Kershaw-Maeda-Ryu-McCarthy are locks.

I believe we should return Urias back to minors to save his arms

Wood deserves a consideration, but altimately he belongs in the pen

Hill is the 5th.

Kershaw-McCarthy-Hill-Maeda-Ryu seems like the logical starting 5.

It's nice to have so many quality arms available, so this so-called problem really isn't one. With regards to Maeda and Wood, while Maeda has the bigger body of work as a Dodgers starter, I think Wood has actually pitched better than him this season as a starter. Both are making improvements, but Wood seems to be progressing along quite well of late albeit in a relatively small sample size.

Between the two, I like Wood better right now given is upside, but Maeda is a relatively safe fallback to have if Wood struggles with his mechanics again.

Plus, I certainly don't think Ryu is a lock right now. We'll see if he can follow through on his confidence for a full season before I can have any faith in him as a starter at this point.

Toles is done for the year
Combined with no forthye right now puts the dogs in a tough spot at the top of the order

Lead off man is going to be a problem

Looks like we made it through our rotation 5 times before Urias got to go and Urias' 1st game was on the 6th time through.

That should have him somewhere around 27 starts.
27 starts at 6 IP should have him at 162 innings this year.
He threw 122 innings last year plus 5.2 playoff innings.

He needs to get bumped up in innings and take on the workload at some point.
Why not now?

well, after blowing this game so far in Colorado, Ryu is no longer a lock and now the prime candidate to be our long relief while his arm strength is built back up. Wood will win the job over Ryu. 80 pitches so far for 3 and 1/3 innings and 7 runs plus 5 walks is hard to come back from.

Kershaw
McCarthy
Hill
Maeda
Wood

this is how I see it now. unless Dave wants to tinker with a 6 men rotation which I am not against of.

Woo hoo!

With the 10 day rules, I guess we're just using it more frequently

neither was Toles with .314 OBP this season. JOc is actually better so far this season with .333 OBP.
