3 Way Trade in the Making

Three-team deal may send Dwight Howard to Lakers, Andrew Bynum to Cavs and picks/prospects/cap relief to Magic. Still trying to get details.

Bynum on this team would be unbelievable. Who does Cleveland give up?

I hope this is true.. Seriously doubt it though. But this Dwight drama needs to end... It's gotten to the point where I don't even care where he plays anymore.

This type of move isn't going to make the tankers happy.

Bynum and Irving, would make the Cavs relevant again.

The problem with this rumor is that there is a big difference between the value of Howard verses Bynum who might by the #2 Center in the NBA, but gets destroyed by Howard in head to head competition. The Laker's are not sending out enough assets to make up the difference to Orlando. Bynum has a lot of baggage with his attitude, physical and extend ability issues. IMO, the Lakers would have to take back at least one bad contract (Turks) from Orlando. The Cavs shouldn't be making up the difference between Bynum and Howard's value for the Laker's.

If you add Bynum, you probably don't need to tank, just make other improvements.

Then make a straight trade with Orlando and the Laker's and we will see how even the magic think it is.
It would have already happened, if the Magic thought Bynum was as good as Howard. Proven as in 1 All-Star season where he didn't spend significant time on the injured list last season. Proven to be a head case too with off the court and on court issues. Flagrant foul on a Dallas player in the playoffs in 2011, taking 3 point shots to the detriment of his team and disappearing in this years playoffs.

If we don't hear anything within the next two hours, I'm guessing the deal is dead.

It's the other pieces that would have to be in play here. The Lakers 2017/19 draft picks, MWP (pending buyout agreement), McRoberts expring, and the pair of 2nd rounders they have in 2013.

Orlando, like all teams who are forced to trade their stars, is not looking for fair value, but the right value. From the rumors of recent deals, that primary includes cap relief and picks, something the Lakers cannot provide. Even if they thought that 1 year of Bynum = 1 year of Howard, pulling the trigger gets them the wrong piece, so why do it? They're looking at a long-term rebuild.

2013 Cavs #1, 2013 Lakers/Heat #1, 2013 Magic #2, 2014 Magic #2, Better of 2015 Cavs/Heat #1 and rid of JRich and Turkoglu = the value they are salivating over...3 firsts, 2 high seconds and cap space to splash in 2013 or 2014.

The only way the Cavs do this is if Cavs get back a 2013 #2 from LAL and their 2017 #1.

My question then is, why do the Lakers do it? Unless Howard agrees to be there for at least 3 years. All a S&T of Howard to the Nets next year is going to net them is Brook Lopez & Gerald Wallace, which will not extend an aging Kobe/Nash/Gasol window.
