What do we do with Stash a Kaun?

Post#1 » by improvisor » Fri Jun 26, 2015 4:31 am

Sasha Kaun is finally ready to take his talents and 7'6 wingspan to the Nba. We have his rights and been reported that a couple teams has been trying to get his rights. Would you rather keep him to replace Haywood and Perkins? Teams like San Antonio and the Nets are very interested.

I'd sign him but geez 7 years later, the guy is now 30 years old.

Too old too late. Trade him to the Spurs for one of their stashed euros.

Wait until FA is finished and offer him a league minimum contract. If he turns it down, then trade him. AV is done in two years. Love could be gone in a year. If TT gets maxed, you have to think long and hard about matching.

Unclear what his salary requirements would be, but not sure why is would be than Moz has been getting. For $5M I add him to this roster in place of Perkins and Haywood.

If we can get him for Cheap like what 2nd rounders normally get, then he might be worth a shot to see what he got. I won't pay a guy $5m that hasn't proved he can play in the Nba.

A 30 year old Russian averaging only 7 PPG in the Euroleague? Why are other teams interested in him?

Besides...

9.9 points in the Euroleague this year. Thats quite a lot considering he is playing for such stacked powerhouse as CSKA, and he does it in only 20 minutes per game. 17.9 points per 36, on 70 TS% and 1.8 PPS. Kaun is very productive.

Sources says that Kaun is retiring from European basketball, but he wants to play in the NBA.

Both S.A. and Brooklyn are interested in him. At the very least we can trade him for a second round pick.

Or see if he signs for cheap first and if not trade our rights. Either one of those teams are probably picking him up if we don't.

UcanUwill hit it on the head. He's just done with Euroleague and want to try a few years in the NBA in his prime.

Sign him for two years and see what hi can do. If productive, sign him for 3 more or use him for trade bait... If not productive, trade him or release him....

We already used part of our MLE on Williams not sure what we can give him. I know we can go over the cap even further to sign him.

Since you're over the cap and don't have Bird Rights (you own draft rights on him) on Kaun, you have to use an exception to sign him. So, either a veterans minimum salary exception, which, for him, would be only $525,093, or use the remainder of your taxpayers MLE as you said ($1.276m remaining) to sign Kaun. Right now, those are the only two options to sign him this season.

He is a good insurance big in case Andy goes down again, and we all know that might happen.
Signing JR should be a priority though.

I say take a chance on him, Kaun and Mozgov was playing together on the Russian National team, Kaun would start ahead of him...

Kaun will be our new improved Perkins til he gets used to the league. All the talk is we are going to use what's left of our mle 1.2 million on him. I say this might be a better idea then trading him.

Can we use the TPE from Mike Miller to sign him? I think we can but I am too lazy to look it up.

No. It's called a trade exception. Not a signing exception.
