Please don't read and believe anything Buster Olney says. This was based on talking to a "scout" aka random guy who had no radar gun to tell us how fast he was really throwing. According to pitch tracking sites his velocity was fine and not in the 88-90 mph range (expect for his slider which he throws in that range).

Watched a little of the game last night and Verlanders velo was 89-90. Thats scary stuff for DET. Now it was just the broadcast (KC PIT broadcast) but if youre Detroit fan youre terrified. He's going to have to re-invent himself Lincecum style.

Rosenthal said it as well, but yeah looking at Fangraphs he seems to be in the low 90s.

Every team in baseball does it. It doesnt hurt what so ever to try. Pretty common knowledge.

I've long wondered why high performing GM's in pro sports don't make way more money than they do. Beane for example should be making more money per year than any player on the A's roster given he's clearly more important to that franchise than any single player is. Same with Friedman in Tampa.

Beane makes pretty good money. They kept him from going to Boston when they ended up hiring Epstein (an apprentice of his) by giving him partial ownership stake in the A's.

The Tigers lost 20-6 yesterday, used 8 pitchers, and now have a double header today.

Holliday hits one out but at least it was just a solo shot, Pirates still up 2-1.

Wainwright getting smacked around early, already given up three runs in just two and a third innings pitched and the Pirates have guys on first and third with just one out.

Pirates win 3-1. Hope we can take advantage tonight and actually gain a game on the Cardinals.

I remember getting in a long argument about how well Theo could rebuild the Cubs given that he started throwing out bloated contracts at the end of his Sox tenure.

Yeah, uhhh, they are going to be a freight train as of 2016 and a playoff contender in 2015.

The Derek Jeter long goodbye reaches a crescendo this weekend with a ceremony retiring his number. Jeter, and the rest of the Yankees, will be wearing a Derek Jeter commemorative patch through the end of the season. There will be a Derek Jeter logoed ball, and Steiner Sports is poised to make millions on various other Jeterphernalia.

All of which makes writing Jeter's speech on Sunday very easy.

We're also behind the Giants by 3 games for the WC1. They're up 1 run in the 8th against Detroit.
