ASG Roster Announced: Gomez, ARam, Luc, KRod

Post#1 » by humanrefutation » Sun Jul 6, 2014 11:55 pm

Gomez and Ramirez are starters. Lucroy is a reserve. K-Rod in the bullpen.

Ramirez is starting simply based on name recognition and the weakness of the position. Lucroy not starting is a joke in my view, but hey, he didn't get voted in.

Always nice to see guys like Kurt Suzuki get the honor because a couple extra seeing-eye singles find green. ZOMG batting average!

Obviously wanted Luc to get the start but he's on the team so oh well.

McGehee should get in on final vote, dude got snubbed currently leading the NL in hits and 6th in RBI.

Speaking of snubs, no Will Smith? SMH

If he didn't win the vote, didn't really deserve it.

McGehee is having a nice year but I wouldn't say he was snubbed. When his BABIP lowers and he finishes the year batting .285 with a .720 OPS it'll be more clear. In terms of RBI, he shouldn't be rewarded for being able to bat behind Giancarlo Stanton.

McGehee is this year's Chris Johnson.

I'm not saying he'll keep it up, but i'm going off of the first half numbers he should probably be in. Just kind of weird to see the guy leading the league in hits not getting in is all.

Its obvious why he didn't get in though, when it came down to him or Carpenter, Matheny clearly went with his guy.

His numbers stack up just fine to the other OF reserves.

Really happy for Luc, looked like he was going to get snubbed for a while there.

We've gotten to the point where people post things like OPS (I've even seen networks doing WRC+) but we haven't gotten to the point where enough people (especially those selecting) understand it yet.

I agree. You need to be rewarded for something, because this is the 2014 All Star game after all. I am guilty of ripping people for most of the "lifetime achievement selections" but also don't give enough credit who are having a good half.

It's just annoying when you see guys like Kurt Suzuki and McGehee that will struggle to be on an MLB roster next year probably. Hell, I was joking with a friend a month ago that Yangervis Solarte was going to make it to the ASG and be sent down 2 months later. Looks like his fall happened a bit early and he didn't even make it til the All Star break before getting sent down.

Watching Lucroy’s evolution from platoon guy to competent starter to good player with a cool skill to whatever Lucroy is now must be dizzying for Brewers fans. It’s like walking along the beach with a metal detector and finding a set of keys, then discovering that those keys go to a Maserati that has a lamp in the glove box with a genie inside who insists on granting you three wishes.

Didn't know if we were using this as the ASG thread or making a new one because i'm not sure how much interest there is so i'll post this here.

Sticking all the Brewers at the end of the lineup and naming his own guy the starter over Kershaw, I really hope he never gets to manage another allstar game again.
