Scooter would be okay for 250 pa's per season if the Bewers didn't already have so many players who lack the versatility to play multiple positions, making it harder to make favorable double switches and stuff like that. I like Sardinas more than Gennett for that reason and for defense. He looks pretty natural, though not especially fast, in the field. Good call by the Crew.

Sardinas is likely a wizard in the field but will really need to work on developing any sort of bat. Aside from the Colorado Springs super-super-super stats inflation, he sucks at the plate.

I would be happy with a .600 OPS. They've always had a few really bad hitters in the lineup, even in 2011. Having just one would be a big improvement, especially if he brings some desperately-needed versatility and defense in the middle infield.

In the meantime, I'm just glad I don't have to see Scooter out there for a while. His fielding is very poor. I'm not sure a .750 OPS in a platoon makes up for that when he can't play any other position, even in an emergency. Getting caught stealing more than 33% of the time, even in the minors, doesn't help his cause. I'd really like to see the Brewers pay a little more attention to versatility, depth, base-running talent/acumen, and defense. Slugging is very valuable, but there is a trade-off point and the Brewers have been on the wrong side of it for a while IMO.

Andrelton Simmons had a OPS of 600 and was a 3 WAR guy while Yuni B was a 600 OPS guy with negative WAR. A lot hinges on how good of a defensive player he really is, especially at SS.

Simmons had a .600 OPS one year. In the other 2+ years he's been .692 to .751. Being happy with a .600 OPS for an entire career is insane.

I'm just comparing him to Gennett. I'd be happier with Sardinas than Gennett. And I'd be happier with Sardinas than the myriad other .600 - .650 OPS guys they've trotted out there over the years, all of whom not only couldn't hit but also were net negatives on the basepaths and in the field. This includes McGehee, Yuni, 2013 Weeks, Overbay, Gonzalez, and Taylor Green. Counsell's last 2 years arguably belong in that group too, although I seem to remember he was at least a good defender.

If you're a small market team that hasn't drafted well and that has been forced to look to over-priced players to fill gaps, you're going to end up with a few total duds in the batting order. We're talking about the 24th or 25th roster spot on a team with no real options here. All I'm saying is that I'd rather those duds at least be young guys who can run and field and play multiple positions. As long as Sardinas is significantly better at the plate than Bianchi, I like him a lot more than most of the other bandages this team has forced on us. Give me guys like Schafer and Sardinas over the above-mentioned scrubs all day.

people talking about gatewood and harrison in the big leagues really need to hold off.. those guys are both really struggling in low A ball.. both hitting under .190..seen monte drop a couple easy pop flies... both guys have all the upside in the world but i think its more likely they bust

our farm system is such trash. I wish our management would see that and blow this thing up.

I dont think anyone is wanting two recent HS draftees in the majors. There is a reason why those guys were drafted so early and consensus top 25 players. You have to be significantly more patient with HS hitters. More patient than 28 and 23 pro games.

Henderson walking a few too many people but otherwise moving up quick and putting up decent numbers in his rehab stint.

Law bumped Arcia up to #20 on his top minor league prospects list:

Arcia has had one of the minors' biggest breakout campaigns to date, walking more than he has struck out while hitting .325/.382/.450 for Biloxi, along with above-average defense at short. His power has come out now that he's out of the graveyard of high Class A Brevard County as well, and he should be the Brewers' long-term shortstop starting at some point in 2016.

Interesting. Law and BP have us much lower.

I think it really depends on how you view some of our younger prospects - Coulter, Taylor, Lara, Harrison. Still too early to make a call.

Law is just late to the party, hence moving Arcia up to #20 now. Wouldn't go on a limb before Arcia played in AA but hard to ignore now. I have been looking at a lot of teams minor league prospects since they Brewers are pretty much going to be sellers and I would put the Brewers middle of the pack prospect wise. They will have limited top players graduating to the big league level since AAA stinks, so because of that and the new prospects they will be receiving through trades it is not a stretch to say they will be top ten by this time next year.

I am surprised that Wagner got the call. Just thought they were going to call up either Thornburg or Jungmann.

Was he even on the 40-Man? They had two open spots so it's possible he was added I guess.
