Melvin Resigns - David Stearns New GM

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Fri Jul 17, 2015 12:01 pm

Haudricourt thinks Melvin is retiring. Here's his article on 10 possible replacements

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Surprised Jerry Dipoto isn't on the list.

I'm not sure if I agree with Tom's point that they're unlikely to promote Ray Montgomery because he just got the job as scouting director. Wouldn't a new GM be inclined to bring along his own scouting department as well?

I wonder if Doug gets to see through this rebuild or if he'll go into a different position. I don't feel he is going to get fired.

I think Doug is setting up his replacement. He most likely will still within the organization so it makes sense to be invested in it.

yes i can see him being like VP of Baeball ops or some ****. I thought it would be craig counsel intill the man signed a 3 year deal.

Counsel actually has been pretty decent manager, so i want him to stick around. But Roeinkie imo never got a fair shake, we gave Yost such a long long long tenure, and Roenkie has a few bad months he is gone.

I feel bad for KC, they have a good talented core, and being a small market team their window is very short, as we know. To be stuck with a terrible manager must suck.

Question, if Jack Z gets fired in Seattle should the brewers bring him in?

Dombrowski's prowess is a bit hard to judge when his team was comfortable spending gobs of money on Miggy, Prince, Verlander, Martinez, and Price, to name a few. That doesn't mean he didn't make some good moves during his time (acquiring Miggy for example), but I'm not convinced he's the right fit for a small market.

ONLY in a role similar to he had here. Definitely not as a GM

In his defense to an extent, and likely every other GM's, if you put together a team headlining those names you don't exactly expect the results that the Tigers incurred during most of his tenure. The two WS appearances were nice and the 4 straight division titles as well.

I would welcome him, he's got a track record of putting together nice teams and has operated in both market extremes.

Well I doubt that would happen, I guess it could if he gets fired, and doesn't get anther chance elsewhere.
