2012 is Here

Post#1 » by Klomp » Mon Mar 5, 2012 5:05 am

Since last year...

Joe Nathan is gone (Texas)
Jason Kubel is gone (Arizona)
Michael Cuddyer is gone (Colorado)
Kevin Slowey is gone (Colorado)
Jose Mijares is gone (Kansas City)

Jamey Carroll (Dodgers) is the new starting SS
Ryan Doumit (Pirates) will see time at DH and in the outfield
Josh Willingham (Athletics) will start at one of the corner outfield spots
Jason Marquis (Nationals/Diamondbacks) is in the starting rotation

Right now, I'd say our lineup will look like this

1. Denard Span (CF)
2. Jamey Carroll (SS)
3. Joe Mauer (C)
4. Justin Morneau (1B)
5. Josh Willingham (LF)
6. Ryan Doumit (DH)
7. Danny Valencia (3B)
8. Trevor Plouffe (RF)
9. Alexi Casilla (2B)

Primary Pinch Hitters
Ben Revere (OF)
Tsuyoshi Nishioka (2B/SS)
Luke Hughes (IF)
Drew Butera (C)

Personally, I think they would be better off with Willingham in RF and Revere starting in LF. Just not impressed with Plouffe.

It depends on what we want from our corner outfielder. Revere has the speed to cover ground, but Plouffe brings the offensive power and a strong arm. Personally, I feel Revere fits perfectly off the bench as a pinch runner/defensive replacement.

Yeah, i definitely see the reasons for Plouffe. Revere's arm is a big weakness to have him in the lineup everyday. And Plouffe does have a great arm, just needs a lot more work in the OF in terms of judging fly balls and feel comfortable with the wall/warning track.

It sounds like Morneau will open the season at DH. The starting 1B will be Chris Parmelee.

So far not so great for the Twinkies. If we have another season like last (not likely if we stay healthy) I wonder if Gardy's job would be in jeopardy.

I'm guessing we'll go 78-85.

Thats a pretty generous record, looking back at it three weeks later.

WE SUCK!
