Mets Minor Leagues/Prospects Thread.

Post#1 » by NYman15 » Tue Aug 23, 2011 1:06 am

I just thought I'd make a thread that I can update daily whats going on in the Mets minor league system. The farm has gotten much better in recent years and one prominent writer said it is now possibly a top 11-15 farm system in baseball which is much better than it has been in recent years. The Mets top draft pick from last year Matt Harvey has been dominant this year as has Jeruys Familia who is only 21 with electric stuff and has a 3.86 era in AA. And the other top pitching prospect is Zach Wheeler, who they got in the Carlos Beltran trade, and he is in high A ball and has been fantastic and has a 2.70 era since being traded to the Mets. And of course their are others and a ton of good hitting prospects. So, I though I could just update this daily to update anyone who wants to know whats going on in the minors.

This is a thread I made a little bit ago on some of the Mets top pitching prospects,
viewtopic.php?f=112&t=1129017

And one of those top pitching prospects, Matt Harvey, pitched 7 scoreless innings tonight giving up 4 hits no runs 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Great game for Harvey as Binghamton won 2-0 with Reese Havens and Juan Lagares with 1 hit each.

Jordany Valdespin is now 2-3 with a double tonight. He has really "clicked" this year and is only 23 years old. He was hitting .300 in AA and was just promoted to AAA. He could be up next year as either the shortstop or 2nd baseman.

2 guys to keep your eye on in AAA are Josh Satin and Zach Lutz, both of whom will probably be September call ups. They both can hit. Satin, I believe is 26, and Lutz is 25 and both are middle infielders. Lutz is hitting over .300 in the minors unfortunately he has been hurt throughout his minor league career, as he has now been hit in the head twice this year alone. But both those guys can hit.

And one other trio of pitchers with great stuff are in Kingsport which is rookie season ball. Their names are Juan Urbina, Domingo Tapia, and Akeel Morris. All have great stuff, but all are still just teenagers.

And this years top draft pick Brandon Nimmo went 2-5 yesterday in GCL and was 0-4 with 4 strikeouts today.

Reese Havens with a 3 run homer tonight. Might be the 2nd baseman of the future for the Mets. You could see him at the majors sometime next year.

Mets 2011 first round pick Brandon Nimmo hit his 1st homerun as a pro in the 8th inning. Hopefully a lot more to come.

Matt Den Dekker continues to rake. Now has 19 homers, I think 29 doubles and like 11 triples. Great year for him. Valdespin continues to rake and Havens continues to hit and is going to the Arizona Fall League after the season.

The GCL ended today and Brandon Nimmo ended his season by going 3 for 3 with a 3 run homer with 2 walks. Good way to end the season.

Wheeler continues to dominate. 5 scoreless innings tonight. Has an era of 2.17 with the Mets. Impressive.

Reese Havens hit a walk off homer to win it for Binghamton. Guy has had an amazing August. And Jordany Valdespin went 3-3 with a walk. Now has his avg. up to .293 in AAA.

Both Brandon Nimmo and Phil Evans have been promoted to Kingsport. This will let them get a few more at bats before their season ends.

The 20 year old Cesar Puello went 4 for 4 in his 2nd game back from injury. He has 5 tool potential. And Nimmo so far is 1 for 2 with 2 walks in his Kingsport debut and Phil Evans is 2 for 4 so far with a double in his Kingsport debut.

This is a great article on Matt Harvey and his season and just a lot about how he pitches a game. He has had a tremendous year and looks like a great pitcher. Great article.

This is a good article on left hander Robert Carson, who is in AA Binghamton this year. The writer goes into detail about all his pitches and what his future is as a pitcher.

Matt Harvey got the win going 5 innings giving up 3 runs 4 walks and 3 strikeouts.
Didn't have great command but battled through it.

Both Matt Den Dekker and Juan Lagares went 2 for 5.
The 22 year old Lagares is batting almost .400 in AA.

Juan Urbina went 5.2 innings giving up just 1 run with 6 strikeouts. Good game for the 18 year old.
And Jordany Valdespin hit a homer in AAA. Almost hitting .300 in AAA.

http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/n...vkey=news_milb.

"Gorski's dominance has not translated into a promotion, at least not yet, but it did earn him Pitcher of the Year honors. A Mets lefty who made the mid-season All-Star team, Gorski leads the league in ERA (2.15) and WHIP (1.02) and ranks third with 11 wins and 136 strikeouts in 26 outings (20 starts) for St. Lucie.

New York's seventh-round pick from 2009 was undefeated until July 24, when he allowed three runs over seven frames to Brevard County. He was 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in May and improved on that in June, when he finished 4-0 with a 0.79 ERA in five starts.

Gorski was one of six pitchers selected to the team, joining Dunedin's Nestor Molina and Wes Etheridge, Clearwater's Julio Rodriguez and Trevor May and Daytona right-hander Frank Batista."

Great year for the left hander. Breakout season. Expect him in AA next year.

This is a great Q/A with top prospect Zack Wheeler. He talks about what he'a been working on and how he's become friendly with tis years 1st round pick Brandon Nimmo.
