Interview with AA manager Wally Backman on Harvey and Familia.
A couple of quotes,
on Harvey- " His change up has improved 100%"
On Familia- " I love him."

Great scouting report on Jeurys Familia. Kid is one of the best pitching prospects in the system and is already in AA as a 21 year old. Kid has a great arm.

According to reports, Sandy Alderson said today Jenry Mejia won't be ready for Spring Training.
And I really didn't expect Mejia to be ready for ST. He had the Tommy John surgery in May. Its only been a few months when recovery time is usually 12 to 18 months.

"Cesar Puello was going to be one of the breakout prospects of 2011, at least according to some scouts who watched the young Mets outfielder last year.

Puello, 20, has plenty of tools. He runs well, throws well, shows plenty of raw power in batting practice and overhauled a swing that helped him hit .292 with a .375 on-base percentage last year at low Class A Savannah.

Instead, Puello's season started with a thud, as he hit .242/.297/.350 in 64 games heading into the all-star break. Since then, Puello has been one of the best hitters in the Florida State League. After going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and a stolen base yesterday, he's hitting .290/.350/.475 in the second half (48 games), with 19 stolen bases on the season. He's also clubbed nine home runs after hitting only one last year.

Puello's approach is still raw, but he's also one of the youngest players in the FSL. The Mets have also tried to give him more value by moving him from right field to center field in June, though his reads off the bat will need refinement."

Thats from Baseball America.

Puello started his season slow, but has really turned it on in the 2nd half. He might be the Mets best hitting prospect. He has 5 tool potential and he's only 20.

And the Mets called up 2 prospects as the rosters expanded today. They called up Josh Satin from AAA and Josh Stinson from AA. Stinson will be in the bullpen and he has potential. He has a mid 90's fastball and a nasty slider. And Satin can play 1b, 2b, and 3b. He's not a great defender but he can hit.

Zack Wheeler pitched 2 scoreless innings striking out 5! He only went 2 innings because he's on a pitch count as he gets ready to pitch game 2 of the playoffs. Game 1 will be started by Darin Gorski.

And Colin Mchugh has had a great 2nd half. So far tonight, he's pitched 5 scoreless innings striking out 7. He has good stuff and has the potential to be a major league starter. Keep an eye out for him.

And 23 year old Jordany Valdespin continues to hit well. He's 1-2 so far tonight.
And 24 year old Reese Havensis so far 1-3 tonight with a double.

"Low Class A Savannah CF Darrell Ceciliani, 21, is finishing 2011 with a flourish, batting .320/.421/.443 (31-for-97) with nine extra-base hits and 16 walks in August. The Mets 2009 fourth-rounder batted 11-for-21 (.524) this week with two doubles and three triples . . . The Mets shifted 20-year-old Cesar Puello to center field on June 22, and, coincidentally or not, the erstwhile right fielder found a new gear on offense. In 54 games since the switch, he's batting .281/.339/.474 (48-for-171) with 18 extra-base hits (including six homers) and eight steals for high Class A St. Lucie. (He went 10-for-23 with a homer, two doubles and four steals this week.) Scouts believed in Puello's power potential even as he hit only one homer in low Class A a year ago. Now he needs to tighten his strike zone (18 walks, 100 strikeouts"

This is from Baseball America.

These are 2 of the Mets young outfield prospects. Both have a ton of talent, but Puello, specifically, has a chance to become a star and become the Mets top hitting prospect.

Both Reese Havens and Juan Lagares continue to swing hot bats. Lagares went 2-5 with 2 doubles and Havens went 1-4 with a double as well.

Last night for Brooklyn, 19 year old Domingo Tapia made his debut. He pitched 6 scoreless innings. Watch out for this kid next year. He has reached 100mph on multiple occasions this year.

Den Dekker went 1-5
Lagares went 1-5
Havens went 2-5,
All 3 have had very good years and Havens is making a push to be in the second base competition next spring training.

Albert Cordero went 2-4 as did Ceciliani who continues his great 2nd half.

And Phil Evans made his Brooklyn debut today getting a hit.

And Jordany Valdespin continues his breakout year going 2-3 with a SB.

And Johan Santana made a rehab appearance for St. Lucie going 2 innings giving up 3 hits 1 run 0 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Good outing. The key will be how he feels in the next couple of days. There is a possibility he could make an appearance at the majors this year just to pitch an inning or 2.

Matt Harvey's year is done. He went 3 innings giving up 4 runs. He had 4 walks which might show that he is getting tired as his innings are very high. This was his last start of the year. His 4.68 ERA in AA is somewhat misleading as most of his other numbers show he has pitched much better than that. He was dominant in high A and after a few really bad starts in AA, he pitched much better. Great year for Harvey as he put himself on the map and is now arguably the Mets top prospect. And he put himself in position to be a possible call up sometime next year.
The Minor League Baseball seasons are all ending very soon with the playoffs coming soon. So, a lot of the Mets players are done for the year and are headed to Instructional League or Arizona Fall League.

Familia's last start of the year was decent going 5 innings giving up 3 runs walking 2 and striking out 4. His era in AA finished at 3.49 which as a 21 year old is very impressive. Great breakout year for the 21 year old.
Now, the minor league system regular seasons are almost all finished with Buffalo and Binghamton's seasons ending today and with St. Lucie, Savannah, and Brooklyn all in the playoffs.

St. Lucie won their 1st playoff game 4-2.
Darin Gorski continued his great season going 7 innings giving up 2 runs striking out 6.
Cory Vaughn went 2-4 and Wilmer Flores had a double.
Zack Wheeler takes the mound for game 2.

Wheeler had a rough start going 3.2 innings giving up 4 runs walking 2 and striking out 7.
First bad start in a while for Wheeler.

And Savanah lost their 1st playoff game as Chase Huchingson gave up 4 runs in the 7th that broke open the game.

St. Lucie won game 3 on a walk off hit by Jefry Marte in the 10th inning to win 4-3 and thus winning the series. Congrats to St. Lucie.

Brookyln lost their 1st game 2-0 with their starter Camarena striking out 9 in 6 innings.
