OT RA Dickey with back to back 1 hitters

Post#1 » by Christophersp10 » Tue Jun 19, 2012 1:23 am

I would love to know when was the last time a pitcher was this dominant in back to back starts.

Johnny Vander Meer had back to back no hitters in 1938.

It's amazing to see a pitcher like Dickey finally get it at the age of 37.

Despite being a Yankee fan, I'm also a big RA Dickey fan. Just a terrific player, person and story.

PS: When does he become a FA?

Mets have a 2013 team option and he is a free agent going forward.

It always shocked me why more young kids don't learn to thrown the knuckle ball.

There's something about an underdog that really inspires the unexceptional.

I love RA Dickey. Awesome having a Knuckleballer from Tennessee playing for the NY Mets.

I think it is just so hard to throw. And many other variables.

I read a lot about the knuckleball. One knuckleballer said that lot of scouts use radar gun readings to discover talent. Knuckleball does not look that good on radar guns. Many pitchers believe they have to throw some high heat to get their name out their.

Hopefully RA Dickey can encourage young pitchers to go the Knuckleball route. If a pro pitcher can get it down consistently, they are a one of a kind. Otherwise, pitching the minors is the ceiling like the Niekro son.

This, and it isn't like Dickey came out of HS/College a knuckleballer, he was a flamethrower but it was discovered after he was drafted (in the first round iirc) that he was missing his ulnar collateral ligament in his right arm and his bonus went from millions to thousands.. he then struggled throughout the minors with some small stints in the majors, velocity went from mid/upper 90s to what it is now, so he told himself he had to refine his knuckler to have a shot.. read up on it, his story is crazy

Even though he is 38, Knuckleball pitchers last longer.
