Trades/Free Agents Ideas

I thought it would be cool to have a thread for this with all the influx of players we have.

Soon, I think one of Murphy/Herrera will be traded. And I think Gee will for sure and one of Matz/Noah.

Tulo is expected to be traded supposedly.

I feel like teams who will want to trade with us, want to take 2-3 of our pitching prospects at least or one of the starters. Anything less, and they aren't interested.

I believe last year when the Mets called the Red Sox regarding Cespedes, the Red Sox wanted DeGrom or Wheeler straight up. Alderson said no. And the Red Sox ended up giving more (Cespedes + pitching prospect Gabe Speier, and relief pitcher Alex Wilson) for Rick Porcello who is a less talented pitcher than DeGrom or Wheeler imo.

I can't imagine what the Rockies want for Tulo. He's probably going to go to the Yankees or Red Sox for really cheap though.

I'd have no problem giving up Noah and a couple of b+ prospects for Tulo. But their probably gunna want more

The brewers might have a fire sale if they don't turn it around. Murphy, and some prospects for jean segura. We can move Flores to second and start segura

They are going to want Noah, Matz, Plawecki, and Nimmo/Conforto.

I say offer Murphy, Montero, Plawecki, Mejia, and Flores. :)

That's a bitch much for a injury prone highly paid shortstop

I'd rather go after segura then. Plus tulo hasn't been hitting like Tulo. albeit it is early. There only 3-4 players worth 5 of the topp prospects in baseball plus some established major leaguers too. Hell nah.

That's y I like sandy. He doesn't deal until he gets what he wants

Murphy has zero value around this league, can't field nor hit for power.
I look for us to try and trade Gee as he's the odd man out of the rotation.
You figure one of Matz/Noah/Montero should be prime trade candidates.

I don't see us being a player for Tulo unless Rockies are eating a ton of money.
Id love to go get a Lindor/Russell/Seager/Gordon to grow into something for us. These are top flight SS prospects, we have top flight arms to trade.

Keep Matz and Niese as the lefties

Trade chips:
Thor
Plawecki
Montero

Gee
Colon
Murphy

These are 6 trade chips, imo should land a pretty good SS and a decent outfielder. One of them should be a power hitter.

The rotation next year will still be one of the best:
Harvey
DeGrom
Niese
Wheeler
Matz

I guessing Alderson is just waiting to see how Matz turns out.

Looks like Niese is drawing interest in some teams.

Dillion Gee is struggling in AAA atm. We won't get anything for him.

I like Gee. I think he is obviously a realistate kinda pitcher (all about location). We can rely on him to be a #5 starter, and for this season we can carry 2 #5 starters in Gee and Colon. Matz and Wheeler makes our situation difficult because Wheeler is probably the worst of the prospects at this point and Matz is unproven.

I would say that because Syndergaard has looked so good, we should be looking to deal him. DeGrom and Harvey, gotta love both. Niese is a perfect #3.

If we can be creative, make a move to get a #4-level starter so we can use a 6 man rotation until playoff time (when we obviously constrict to 3-4 SP's tops), we can use a gold chip to get an infielder. Now it's rare to do a player for player, so it's not likely we can pack Thor with Cuddyer and get Braun (for example). We don't really need such a large alteration. We need a 3B (can't count on Wright), we need a middle infielder (Tejada is cool, but c'mon son) and we could stand an upgrade in CF.

Are there any OF options that are worth losing a gold-glover?

I guess through all the rambling, I end on: if we can land a big fish, we should be willing to deal a lesser proven big chip (Thor). If there are no big fish to be had, then find a way to get a Mark Reynolds, or Prado (salary and all) just to add some punch and options at 3B.

In a more fantasy world we could try to trade Granderson to a team looking to add a bat to get some assets. Use whatever salary we free up and assets to fill holes (aforementioned Prado, Upton etc)

I don't know that trading Murphy would be a good idea at this point. We don't know what's going on with Wright and Murph is good insurance to have a 3B which is probably his best position. And Wilmer seems to be more comfortable at 2B anyhow. Our defense has improved at SS with Ruben there and he's been hitting lately too.

I would add the following to the trade chips list:

Jon Niese
Gavin Cecchini
Matt Reynolds
Michael Fulmer
Brandon Nimmo
Robert Gsellman

Niese has been lights out recently. He's pitching better than Cole Hamels and much less expensive. The trade off is that a team looking to acquire him will have to give up more in personnel.

And I would take the following player off it:

Thor

No way I'm trading any of the top four. I would consider moving Wheeler but nobody's taking him while he's recovering from TJS.

We need to do something. I'm all for acquiring any of the following:

Justin Upton
Carlos Gomez
Geraldo Parra

tbh, Hawthorne, I think me and you are the same. But we can't be selfish and favor pitching so much. There's nothing more than I love than a 2-1 pitchers duel, but we don't need 4 nasty pitchers. 3 is really enough in this league.

That's why I wouldn't mind trading Thor or even Harvey tbh. You get what you gave up. The return will be better if you trade a Thor or Harvey than a Gee or Niese.

It's tough, but somethings have to be done.

Well, I can't say that I wouldn't trade one of them. Yes, balance is important. I guess I'd have to know what I'm getting back in return before I could really evaluate it.

From what I read on Metsblog, Sandy is trying to work out something for Zobrist and either Upton/Gomez/Parra and it won't cost any of the top 4 pitcher but might include Wheeler.

Looks like Zobrist is a no go because Mets don't want to eat up 3-4 M in salary.

Looks like we are close to a big deal. If Carlos Gomez is the Big Bat, I'm a little disappoint.

I'm kind of glad it didn't happen, especially since it didn't look like they had a trade lined up for Largaras.

Winter league trade update. Mets trade Niese for 2B switch hitter Neil Walker. Murphy isn't coming back.

They really need a strong right handed bat in the OF. They should re-sign Cespedes! He fits perfectly.

like for like replacement almost, walker has more power? How is his defense

Walker is a steady defender, better than Murphy.

The Mets also signed Astrubal Cabrera to be their SS. Quality upgrade up the middle!

I still think that they need a quality right handed hitting outfielder even though they're looking for a left handed bat. They don't have many quality hitters from the right side.
