"The Mets have failed to trade right-hander Dillon Gee despite some interest from other clubs and instead have placed him on outright waivers for the purpose of sending him to Triple-A Las Vegas, a source told ESPN.com."

I have to say, they really handled this poorely. Gee is a good pitcher. Mets were up top in the league last year in pitching, and Gee was part of that. This year, they were yanking him around too much. From AA, extended rehab starts, to a 6 man spot starter.
I know everybody, even myself, are obsessed with the young guys, but there's no denying that Gee is a great pitcher and not some scrub.
I admit I like Niese more, but it's not like he's done anything more than Gee to reserve a spot on the team. You trade which ever one gives you more value. And use the other as a 5 starter.
Heck, even Thor looks like he should spend more time in AAA.
