Pena who hit .225 last season with the Cubs? Not even Tex was that atrocious...

Girardi not walking a "running machine" like Pena (note facetious tone) is something I can understand because Longoria is his protection. You walk Pena in that situation, that's two men on and Longoria up.

If you notice during this series, the ball is not sinking and when it's up in the zone...it's gone.

Overall, I thought Hughes looked fine. Unfortunately, the offense gassed out and that happens especially after TWICE the Yanks had to climb out of 0-4 holes.

How much is Pena making compared to Tex? How long is Pena signed up for?

Rays have Pena for 1 year 8 million or so. Tex is signed for another 5 years with over 100 million.

Is Tex going to give the Yankees 2 times the Pena production with the Rays? Because that is how much more Tex is being paid.

Hellickson kid who beat Ivan Nova for rookie of the Year last season looking very good early. Not a strike out pitcher but very good at mixing his pitches...8 strong.

And as I forecast in the initial post is a legit threat that will dog the Yanks till the end.

Great, deep young pitching...keep in mind, the Yanks are traditionally slow starters BUT as I said in the preface they face 87 games vs teams .500 or better vs. say, a team like the Tigers who have HALF that.

NOW...this is the measuring stick...can the Yanks play better? Absolutely. Will they? Absolutely.

What I got out of this, young pitching PREVENTS slow starts because they warm up faster Vs. Vets who need 3-4 starts to build up their arm strength.

Hopefully Pineda (not due back until May) will bring what we all hoped, Hughes continues to build on a decent outing...and Nova shows that his preseason was nothing to be concerned about.

I don't think ANY of those pitchers are average. Shields had 11 complete games last season. Price is always very solid. Hellickson was rookie of the year.

What's the difference? They're a little younger rotation than the Yanks CC, Kuroda, Hughes, etc...

i dont see how the yanks are better than the rays

better pitching, better farm, better manager...yanks O is only better on paper b/c of the stat padding they do in blowout wins, they are terrible with RISP

Well, this is why we play 162 games...Baseball is NOT head to head until the playoffs. You play the division and league first...and a lot can happen.

Last season every one was SURE Phillies and Red Sox were going to win the WS. Turns out not to be...

Quite the early statement made by the Rays. That's a scary rotation they have.
