I dont think Cole Hamels is good, can handle NY, and he's overpaid (by ALOT) so no. We need to be under 189, its as simple as that.

Cole Hamels is no more overpaid than CC Sabbathia's extension (thanks Brian!). Can't handle NY?

Look at it this way, I would trust a player who can handle a rabid town like Philly more so than I would from Florida (Pavano, Burnett), St. Louis (Beltran), Tampa (Kelly Johnson).

If you don't have SECOND Half pitching (and clearly the Yankees don't)...it doesn't matter how many stars you sign at every position. 2004 SHOULD have taught the Yankees that.

So you want to compound one mistake with another? Just bc CC is overpaid doesnt mean we need more overpaid pitchers. Hamels isnt a #1, or 2 in the AL East, he wasnt even a #2 in the NL. He's at best a #3 guy and we already have overpaid for players of that caliber, no reason to waste more money just for the sake of faking contention.

And yes, if look at how Hamels has handled his time in Philly no way he translates well to NY.

Again, how is he a mistake? Looking at Cole's numbers and the W-L aren't there but that's because Philly is atrocious on offense last year.

CC has had to be shut down periodically last couple seasons. His weight will always be a factor as he continues to get older. Last season CC wasn't even a #3. Pettitte, Kuroda, Nova were pitching better than he was.

Is Hamels better than David Phelps? Yes. Is he more reliable than Pineda? Yes.

NOW, if you want to argue that Hamels' remaining 4 yrs is a lot. Ok but I don't see ANY teams parting with top arms in free agency and the Yanks don't have anyone in the farm to get them the top arm.

The Yanks bet every thing on Pineda and couldn't read an X-ray.

 Boras is going to regret that because I don't think anyone else is going to offer him that kind of a deal. Not even Texas.

Everything? The only player that we gave up that has gotten any significant time in the MLB is Hector Noesi, and hes gone 2-13 with an ERA hovering around 6.00! Montero was nothing more then average offensively and below average defensively in 2012... we were better off with Russel Martin.

Both main pieces have been busts so far and both still have potential.
Go Knicks!
