I was a really engaged Yankees fan until after the 2004 Red Sox disaster which crushed me as did many of the subsequent horrible signings, especially A-Rod. With the Knicks so bad and the Yankees kind of beginning a new era I'm looking forward to getting back into baseball.

It's going to go

Tanaka
CC
Kuroda
Nova
Phelps or Pineda

Pineda is the sleeper...3 years after I got excited about him.

He's got the talent.. I hope it pans out though.

I haven't be this excited for a pitchers first start since El Duque's first start.

For real. If anything, the Yankees will at least be interesting this year.

The other thing is Mcann was the handler of the best pitching staff in baseball last year.. they just didn't have the bats.

Cashman on record referring to Tanaka as a 25 year old ACE.. he'll start opening day.

i dont think anyone will say tanaka is bad

its just the utter mismanagement of the team that gets some fans

i mean they had to pay triple the darvish price for a guy who isnt as good as darvish

Agreed with Pharmcat. It's that the team really lacked vision the last 4/5 years.

First they wanted to "save money" so they got inexplicably cheap, and at the worst time, as they didn't have an honest opinion with themselves as to how bad the farm system was. Then, when age, injuries and lack of talent manifest in missing the playoffs, as well as a drop in game attendence and a drop in TV viewership, THEN the team decides they need to "spend big", but by this point, it's a not very compelling FA class AND the opportunity to get some young international talent (Darvish, Chapman, Puig) is now long gone.

I mean, I'm glad they tried to bolster the team, but it smacks of the reactionary way the Yankees did it in the 80's, as opposed to the smarter way they went about in mid 90's onward.

And I don't mean the Yankees would have gotten all of them, or even any of those 3, especially considering how the Dodgers and Rangers want to spend, but you'd think maybe one of them, plus any of a number of YOUNG talented Cubans.

Should the Yanks have gone after Darvish? Hell yes, I would've loved to have him and Tanaka. On the subject of Tanaka though, the price comes with the new posting system. Dodgers didn't have anyone else run up the price on Darvish (not the rights to negotiate), the Yanks did with Tanaka. Just be happy (or at least fully accept) Tanaka is a Yankee.

Im totally cool with tanaka

but that doesnt ignore the mismanagement of this team

terrible farm
cant develop (killer Bs= killer busts)
missed out on cheap IFA talent...puig aav is like 6 mill, this team gives away 12 M to trash players like youkilis

regarding darvish, the posting doesnt count against tax so yanks shouldve made big offer, after that negotiated with him

the lack of long term planning, creativity, and scouting skills in this organization is pretty astonishing

you almost have to wonder if there are some biases in the FO these days (NOT racial, maybe steroid suspicion with some of the players from the southern countries)

puig got 42 over 7, thats like 6 mill per year....yet they gave youkilis 12 million for a year
cespedes was another reasonable signing, much rather give him the money than 6 million to ichiro

quality IFA at reasonable prices were available, and this team totally missed on all of them

Think the Yanks are so terrified of PED scandals that you're going to see them be more conservative with their drafting/signing.
