Random thoughts on the first couple of weeks of spring games (none of which are groundbreaking):

I'm all for AROD doing all the steroids and hitting 40 and 110. AROD at 75% is still better than most of our starting lineup. He may be the pivot on which the season rests.

The projected opening day lineup has the killer 8-9 combo of Stephen Drew and Didi Gregorius back to back. That has rally killer written all over it.

Some of these kids in the system look like real players. Pirela looks ready now. We should just cut Ryan, he's hurt all the time and we already have a no offense/great defense SS. At least Pirela is healthy and hungry.

There is way too little rotation depth in the system unless you're one of those people who thinks Severino will be rushed to the majors at the first sign of injury to one of our core guys. Rogers or Warren starting does not get me excited. We have so many pen arms I don't see why we can't make a move with Wilson as a centerpiece with the Mets to give them the lefty they covet while picking up some of their salary (Gee? Colon? Don't see a deal happening for Niese without giving up more). Maybe throw in Drew since his salary is in the Mets wheelhouse and we can accelerate Pirela or Refsnyder as every day options.

Ha. I was just about to post something like this. Yankee spring training = who cares.

No young players to get excited over. No real chance at the playoffs. No real star player, unless you count a collection of them in serious decline.

Team is dry as dirt. Nothing interesting.

Oh wait. The interesting aspects are: Will Tanaka or Pineda implode with injuries, or be good young pitchers? Will CC implode with injuries or be a good old pitcher.

And

Are Beltran\Texeira\A-Rod done or really really really done?

Oh, I guess there could be some interest in whether the kid they got to play shortstop folds like a cheap tent under the pressure of replacing a legend in NYC.

ARod actually looks in great shape considering his age and not playing for so long.

Too fat (all the years prior to last) lead to his physical break down, too skinny (last season) resulted in a lack of power. Let's see what the not too fat, not too skinny version of CC does.
