We're out on Lester. Good! Right?

Looks like he took less money to go to the Cubs, right now they're saying he signed for 6yr/155 mil. We were the team willing to go 7 years.
I'm not bummed but I'm not relieved about dodging any bullets here. Giants pitching staff would've been awesome with him on it for the next couple of years. He's the kind of guy SF fans would root for when he's Timmy 2.0 in 2018.
We've swung and missed on a few FAs already now, kind of surprising considering we just won the WS. Why don't they want our money dammit

We're going to end up overpaying big time for James Shields and giving up a pick.
Ugh.
Ugh.

The Giants have reportedly re-signed relief pitcher Sergio Romo, their former closer, to a two-year, $15 million deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
Cool.

Would not have wanted to see Romo on another team. I'm happy with that deal.

Here's a podcast on that Korean dude we're looking at signing.
Why is this notable? It features RYAN **** SADOWSKI who we all remember having a few awesome games in a row in 2009 following a hilariously awful minor league career.
I will never forget that dude.

Giants trade minor league pitchers Kendry Flores and Luis Castillo to Marlins for Casey McGehee.

Yeh I'm pretty neutral about that as well. Still think we need to add another guy to round out the rotation though.

Re: 2014 Offseason Thread
Vogey is back for another year. Another underwhelming move, but it gives us an intriguing amount of flexibility, with Petit, Tim and now Vogey available as the 5th starter.
I know we were blown away with the potential of our offseason once Panda left, and then disappointed when it didn’t happen, but I actually like what Sabean has done with the roster. If nothing else, it’s shrewd. I’d rather Sabes make a number of smart moves than see him swing for the fences every time. We know what happens when he does that. (eg. Zito, Beltran)
That said; please swing for the fences on Moncada.

Re: 2014 Offseason Thread
This offseason has felt like a dud and the little solace that I take is:
1. We didn't overpay for anyone, particularly the ones we were rumored to be targeting in FA. I'm looking at you Pablo. And Lester. And Scherzer. And Shields.
2. We didn't sign a Type A so we get to keep our picks...which IMO is much needed bc our farm needs some serious help.
3. It's an odd year so this year is dedicated to fighting off our collective Championship hangover.
4. The 2015-2016 FA crop is FAR more worthy of throwing serious cash towards then the current FA market was.
5. Possibility of seeing some of our younger players play more and develop (see "odd year")
With the above stated, we lost a TON of our collective offense when Morse and Panda walked...and I have zero faith in Pagan to be able to be the player he once was prior to back surgery. Aoki was an ok signing, but I was hoping for something more to help our OF. The thought of extended playing time for Blanco as our leadoff hitter makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit. Actually, a lot.

Re: 2014 Offseason Thread
I doubt Blanco spends too much time in the leadoff spot. It was mostly out of necessity last year. Aoki's speed and on base skills make him more suited to replace Pagan when he gets injured, or has a day of rest.

And here come the injuries....
UPDATE: According to Alex Pavlovic of CSNBayArea.com, the Giants believe that Pence suffered a broken left forearm. Not good. We should have a better idea about a timetable after X-rays are completed.

I feel this is the odd year we will make some noise unlike past odd years, so we shall see. I just read the article titled "Madison Bumgarner Has No Regrets Over Team-Friendly Contract" off the Wiretap here and that's why Mad Bum is a true professional cause he doesn't complain or wants to negotiate his contract like some players might. He's becoming one of my favorite Giants!
