Darren wrote:At least, you get someone guard Luka well every practice. I also think Derrick Jones could be back next season. DJJ completely outperformed Exum in the playoff. Lively also somehow gets a moderate playoff veteran standard. I am a bit disappointed about Green, who's all the tools to become exactly what the Mavs needs. Maxi is no longer a post presence. I do like the attitude but the Mavs needs a replacement long-term. Hopefully, Washington could take a bit more minutes for Maxi.

If PJ could become a more consistent scorer, DJJ is almost the perfect person for the 5th starter.
If PJ cant average 15+ per game, Mavs will need to go shopping for a 5th starter at SF.

I've all but given up on Green ever becoming that guy and DJJ is too one dimensional. Hardaway is done as a Mav.

Personally I think Mavs need to move some combination of Green, THJ, Maxi and Hardy for a starter caliber SF who can compete with DJJ, Prosper and maybe even Lawson for the 5th starter spot next season.

The starters are fine, Luka numbers took a hit, but as a team they are playing well despite very tough and well coached competition.
There are 3 problems:
1. Kyrie's health and availability in RS
2. PG depth in the PO
3. reliable scoring off the bench

My primary targets in the offseason would be backup PG and backup shooter.
Tyus Jones + a scorer (Bogi or Sexton) would be a dream, THJ + Green + TOR 25 2nd + DAL 25 1st should be enough assets to pull this off, Mavs gamble on OMax being able to be 15 MPG RS player next year when Maxi is hibernating.

What about Corey Kispert? I don’t think he is good enough on D to start, but he could be our scorer from the bench. Great shooter who can also drive to the basket. Some space for improvement.
Something like Hardy + Toronto 2nd?

I wonder if Wes Mathews is available as a 3D player training staff. I think the 3D players need proper training. I also like Rudy Fernandez as a leader and playmaking staff along with JJ Reddick as three point and free throw shooting staff. It is not easy to pull a major trade for a player that fits like groove.

Watching BOTH Denver and Minnesota it's clear that Mavs still need a 6'9" plus PF who can guard the likes of MPJ and Kat with length & height . Rui is 6'8" and looks small next to MPJ which PJ at 6'7" would look also. Denver with MPJ and AG probably have the best forwards in the game and KAT and McDaniels are pretty damn good too . PJ and DJJ have been playing good but they pale in comparison to Denvers and Minnesota's forwards.
Wizards have 2 6'9" PF's in 6'9" Kyle Kuzma 28 y o & 6'9" Patrick Baldwin Jr 21 y o.
Charlotte has 7' Alexsej Pokusevski 22 y o .Phoenix has Bol Bol 7' 2" 24 y o & Pacers has Obi Toppin6'9" 26 y o and Jalen Smith 6'9" 22 y o. They fit Luka's timeline and can be a tall body on the bigger forwards the Mavs will face.
Maxi is NOT the answer against the young athletic forwards of Denver and Minn. Id promote OMax and even though PJ and OMax might be alittle smaller they'd still make Mavs forwards more athletic and just the passing of Luka could help even out the lack of height in our forwards.

recovering DFS (for THJ+SRP's) and Bogdan (for Green) would be an ideal offseason in my opinion. Bruce Brown and Colin Sexton as alternatives

Based on his playoffs performance, Maxi has to be a long term Mavs and we are not trading him away, right? His 3pt shooting and defense are truly needed, and there is no $11M replacement that gives you the size and spacing. Him and Lively pairing has been great.

I don't think either. Especially when you have not many long term mavs left (hopefully thj and Powell will be gone)

Do we want T. Harris if he accepts minimum contract?

Maybe Mavs should look into Handy. Luka and Lively can use some serious training that worked for LeBron and AD.

I think he can easily get MLE, but on league min, no.
He will not play hard on league min after getting enough max for retirement.

Nic Batum at min might be more enticing, older but hearter

Didn’t Batum anounce his retirement? Or was it just from the NT?

Heard NOLA is cutting budgets somehow. If they are open to moving a bad contract, I'd take that for THJ's expiring as long as Herb Jones comes back with that deal.

Hate to go back to Kuzma as he was not thrilled to play for Mavs earlier, but he and PJ can compliment each other at 3 and 4. He has the size and scoring. Defense should be great if he is motivated with reduced load on offensive side. Also, his descending contract is very friendly with $23M/21M/19M over the next three years.
Wizards may want to use Kuzma to get rid of Poole and they do not have salary pressure. Not sure whether THJ's expiring, Dwight, Hardy, a 1st, and two 2nds would be enticing for them.

I personally want nothing to do with Kuzma. I don't view him as a positive gain at this point.

His physical tools are there and only if defense attitude can be changed. If he could buy in on defense like PJ Washington and accept a defined role on offense in a winning environment, he will be paced to sign last big contract at age 31. It is a gamble but I think worthy to take. He is long, athletic, young, and has a manageable contract.

Magic desperately need shooting and I actually think they could use THJ. Wouldn’t mind getting Gary Harris back.
