I think there is a good chance we get Scola for 3.3m a year for 3 years which is the minimum bid. If none of the teams with capspace bid more than 2.1m for Brand, who is on a one year deal, why would they pay more for Scola? He is Dallas' if Dallas wants him. I think it's probably a good idea to bid on Scola if we can. We all know Carlisle loves his small ball, so Brand will get some time at center. Scola can play next to Brand during those small ball sets when Dirk is resting. Kaman is a little injury prone too, so his minutes will need to be watched. It's very possible that all four of them average around 24-25 minutes a night. On more competitive nights, Dirk and Kaman might approach 30 and Brand and Scola 20. A very competitive, well rested big man rotation is a very, very good thing to have. You can never have too many big guys who can play. They will be well rested for the playoffs.
Maybe I am over-optimistic, but I really think if Scola joins and we get a decent perimeter shooter than we can make another deep playoff run. I feel this team can become superior to the Clippers and Grizzlies and become a top four seed and advance out of the first round at a minimum. If Marion doesn't decline and Collison shows us what he showed the world when he played in New Orleans, then the sky is the limit. I really think the success of this team depends on Collison providing all-star level guard play, but by talent and size alone I think we are at least a second round team.
