According to some of his former teammates the answer is no.
I expect him to be consistent and very productive.

$15M a year is nothing these days. Players that get that kind of money are not necessarily expected to become franchise players. Tyson Chandler, Gordon Hayward, Josh Smith, Roy Hibbert... none of them were expected to be franchise players. Cornerstones, yes. But not "face of the franchise" or anything like that.

Chandler Parsons makes twice as much as Dirk only because Dirk took a pay cut so Cuban can surround Dirk with a good supporting cast. Tyson Chandler also makes twice as much as Dirk. That doesn't mean they want Tyson to take over the franchise, does it?

The fans and media have really taken all the Mavs' comments on Parsons totally out of context. They never said he was brought in to be the franchise guy. They never said he was brought in to take over the franchise. Read those quotes carefully, and what they're saying is that they're giving Parsons every opportunity to become a franchise guy if he can. They'll say the same thing about Monta if they re-sign him next summer.

Right now, I think it's pretty obvious Parsons is #3 in the pecking order behind Dirk & Monta.

it's really not worth debating as it's just my interpretation. the mavs do want him to become the new face of the franchise, yes, that's my take on this deal. not in the way that carlisle runs play after play for him and makes him take 20 shots a game. but in the way that they believe in his abilities, his upside, and his charisma. i don't believe one second that this is a third option type signing for cuban. he won't force him into this new role, but he will support him in every possible way to become his new guy.

Johnny Kilroy wrote:I must admit, I have not watched him much. But he spoke very seriously of becoming a star like Harden did when he went to Houston. I know having RC as coach will help him, but does anyone think this kid can be an all-star?

He had a game last season or the season before.

Shot 80%, inside the arc. and 80% outside the arc.

He was on auto-pilot.

Parsons is the real deal. The guy can dunk, shoot outside, shoot inside, cut to the rim.. man Mavs STOLE the future from the Rockets.

His numbers last year were as good as Harden's (OKC season before his trade) - before he got his max contract.

That's with ISO Harden and probably the worst coach in the NBA

He definitely has the chance to become a star in Dallas with the coaching and the spacing Dallas should have.. It will also help if Dirk teaches him a few Mid-range moves like the one legged fade :)

People that questioned how Dirk feels getting paid half as much as him . Dirk is probably the one that said go get him I want him and you can pay him this much .
