Of course they backed out of the deal.. The Lakers would've gotten fleeced in that trade! Dallas should've thrown in a pick or 2 to sweeten the pot.. Oh well, no harm done in hindsight

It would have been nice to trade Josh Howard in 2007. A great start to a career that was wasted by marijuana and injury. He was a great player through 2009 but a knucklehead.

But the Lakers made one of the most lopsided trade (in our knowledge at that moment) with Memphis with Pau Gasol heading to Lakers.

I'm assuming picks were involved. Dallas has never been shy about tossing them into deals. I think Cubes was just giving the principles involved. That would have been a horrible deal for the Lakers regardless.

At least it wasn't as bad as the CP3 to LAL that was not to be

It doesn't matter, Dirk got his ring.

They got his brother Marc in return. So it wasn't lopsided. At the time Marc was a nobody and it seemed lopsided.

As far as the Kobe trade. I heard Kobe was really angry with management about some of the players he had on his team. Bynum especially but also Smush. He hated both players.

Seems fair.

Los Angeles Lakers
Pau Gasol
second round draft choice in 2010 (Devin Ebanks)

Memphis
Kwame Brown
Javaris Crittenton
Aaron McKie
Marc Gasol
first round pick in 2008 (Rajon Rondo)
first round draft pick in 2010 (Donté Greene)

Actually, they didn't pick Rondo, they picked Kevin Love and traded him to Minnesota for OJ Mayo. That's a bad trade.
Also, they didn't pick Donte Greene, they picked Greivis Vásquez.
