All Mavs team since 2000

PG: Luka Doncic
Backup: Steve Nash

Kidd was the pg on the championship team but played his best elsewhere. Nash was a 2x mvp but I gave the nod to Luka because Nash's best was not as a Mav.

SG: Kyrie Irving
Backup: Jason Terry

SF: Shawn Marion
Backup: Michael Finley

Could also argue Caron Butler but he wasn't a Mav very long, only played 56 games in a Mavs uniform due to injuries.

PF: Dirk Nowitzki
Backup: Kristaps Porzingis

Center: Tyson Chandler
Backup: Derrick Lively

Could also argue Gafford.

This would be an unstoppable offense with Luka, Dirk and Kyrie starting however would struggle on the defensive end although Chandler and Marion would help. Nash and JET off the bench would also be a bad defensive tandem. It also highlights how we've had very few good centers and very few good SFs. Josh Howard was very good for a few years but then fell off. Marion was already slightly passed his prime when we got him.

Luka
Finley
Marion
Dirk
Chandler

Probably not the most balanced lineups ever but the most talented for sure (for the Mavs obviously).

Mavs Van Exel > Mavs Kyrie

Uhh no and not even close. Van Exel averaged 12 ppg as a Mav and had poor shooting percentages.

I know it seems cooler to say someone from 20 years ago is better than someone today, but let's stick to reality.

I don't have as big of problem with Finley over Kyrie although the stats are still in favor of Kyrie.

Kyrie in a Mavs uniform 26 ppg 50% from the field 40% 3p
Finley in a Mavs uniform 19.5 ppg 44.5% from the field 37% 3p

If you want to argue that Kyrie's only been a Mav a short time fine but if you do career the numbers are still in favor of Kyrie. If Finley was a good defender I might go ahead and say give it to him, but he wasn't.

Kyrie is one of the best offensive weapons of all time and tends to get underrated.

Yes agree, Finley is over Kyrie right now... We will see what happen next years

Since Finley played SF quite a bit too I think I'd put him over Josh Howard as the backup but go with Marion to start because he's a two way player that could guard several positions.

I consider a 5 year floor to count:
Luka - G
Finley - G
Marion - F
Dirk - F
Bradley - C

I will say Kyrie > Van Exel when Kyrie one day helps us to win a 7 games TOUGH series battle in the playoffs.

Until then, I will always vividly remember what Van Exel did to the Kings in 2003.

Was going to say Shawn! He was my favourite player for a few years there.

Prime Josh Howard at starting SF/back up also it's hard to have a better back up PG than JJ Barea was during those deep playoff runs while Nash/Kidd are way better players (obviously HOFers) not sure they could play a limited back up role as well as JJ and the Mavs don't win a ring without JJ.

Really really, I was comparing them based on their contribution as a mav. Dampier played a nba final at least. KP did a good job warming up the bench, not entirely his fault but still...

I see. I was trying to for the most promising/potent team but if by actual past contribution no place for KP.
