RS 23/24 - Mavs @ Heat (Wed 7:30PMEST)

I suppose some players may be rested?

Image

Wolves play Nuggets. If the Nuggets win, they're basically assured of #1 seed, which would mean the Mavs would face them in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

For some reason, I prefer the Wolves, so pulling for the unlikely Wolves victory.

I'm not sure, Wolves have been our Kryptonite seemingly. Naz Reid always goes for a career game, etc.
We actually stack up really well against Denver but of course they're the superior team.

Amen to this.
I mean this is a little bit too obvious, so maybe they can give some minutes to THJ, DJJ.

Mavs have a chance to lose all 3 but still keep the 5th seed anyway. But losing this game alone gives some flexibility if we ever want to duck the 5th seed to avoid Clippers-Denver route to the WCF. Imagine playing OKC then Wolves-Lakers-Pelicans winner. Sounds more favorable.

All being said Nuggets may think similarly, too. Do they want to play against GSW-Lakers? I am not sure. GSW with those whistles may be tougher on Nuggets than playing against Pels. As a defending champions though, I think they are more likely to win out all to clinch 1st seed.

I think 5th spot is a lock, the goal is to get Green back into shape, try to re-ignite Hardy and avoid injuries.
PO rotation:
Kyrie/Green
Luka/Exum
DJJ
PJW/Maxi
Gafford/Lively

Against the Clippers Mavs will go small a lot IMO.

Nuggets will get #1 seed, book it.

So for us, we just need to rest the squad to ensure 100% readiness for the playoffs. This means we could throw the rest of the regular season games away, which is fine. (We will beat DET)

Regarding the final outcome, whether we are the 5th or 6th seed, let destiny decides. Our priority is to rest the squad for the moment.

On paper, I think only the Nuggets can beat us in a game of 7. Against all other western teams, we have a shot.

I'd let THJ and Maxi also play enough minutes these last 3 games. They need to have more confidence in their shots and get in a better rhythm, This may be a good way to do so. Plus they havent earned the right to rest with their play :)

Hardy
THJ
Green
Omax
Maxi

WIth Powell, Markieff, Lawson, and others rounding out the bench.

PJ-Maxi will be important for sure. DJJ-Exum may be ahead of Green for the playoff rotation as well.

Second night of a b2b. Road game with the mavs having less invested than the heat.

I expect Luka/Kai to either sit or heavy minute control.

Maxi needs minutes to get out of his funk. I liked what he did in 30 min on the defensive end versus rockets due to no Lively and gafford in foul trouble.

But he needs to get his shot back because whenever possible teams would double using his defender

Injury report has everyone from the Hornets game available, except Maxi probable, Green questionable.

Yeah, it makes no sense to play Luka, Kyrie, Gafford in this game... there's no upside playing the starters here.

And gotta root for the Wolves to upset the Nuggets.

Both teams definitely look like on b2b. I expect a lot of 3s and few free throws kinda like the Celtics/bucks. Protect from injury
