Another treading-water move for a team with zero financial flexibility. Could we somehow just fast-forward to a year from now?
Chances that Clement will be healthy and an effective starter: I give it about a 5 to 10 percent chance. Chances that Clement will be either this year's Mulder, or this year's Kip Wells: I give it about an 80 percent chance.

Oh I'm not complaining about the deal itself, it makes sense--if Clement doesn't work out, 1.25 for a year doesn't hurt the Cardinals any, and if he does work out, there is a team option for a second year. Can't complain about that.
I just think it's a low probability that it's going to work out very well. I'm doing my best to be patient until next winter when the team will finally be in a position to bring in guys from somewhere besides the scrap heap. For me, the 2009 season can't get here fast enough.

Ah, 2009, optimistic one. Lets just hope Carpenter has a career.
The only other starters out their that might be above average were Colon, Garcia, and Lieber, but they all have their question marks too. And I think they'll have much higher price tags.
And **** Miles is back, now we only have about 15 middle infielders on the team.

Miles is back, LOL...I guess Tony still has some pull when it comes to personnel matters.
The Cardinals would have the crappy middle infielders market cornered by now if it wasn't such a big market.
I guess this probably means we won't be seeing a Jarrett Hoffpauier call-up, unless a ton of guys get hurt. You know Isturis, Kennedy, and Miles will be on the opening day roster barring injury. Maybe that still leaves a spot for either Ryan or Jimenez. But I get the feeling that Ryan is going to be a forgotten man, unless Isturis plays his way out of the lineup.
