The Athletics and Cardinals have completed a trade that sends outfielder Matt Holliday to St. Louis in exchange for third baseman Brett Wallace, outfielder Shane Peterson and right-handed pitcher Clayton Mortensen, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

Re: Matt Holiday to St. Louis
I think the front office gave up too much for what could very well turn out to be a two-month rental.
It's a win-now move that will be justified if (1) we make the postseason, (2) Holliday can be brought back next season at a reasonable salary, and (3) Wallace eventually proves he can't play anywhere but first base or DH.
Man, I hope the Cardinals didn't just get fleeced by Oakland again (like in the Mulder trade). What the hell, I'll hope for the best.

This has been an amazing pickup for the Cards. Lets just hope Pujols can finish strong.
