The Rays season is here!

They're starting off the season great so far! It's looking like an opening day win!

Great to start off the season with a win. David Price looking good and surprisingly so did the offense. Great first day for the Rays.

Offense needs to pick up tonight. Toronto came out waiting for Cobb's change up. Need our bats to get us back in this one.

Cobb looked terrible in 5 innings today. Hopefully he turns it around in his next outing.

The offense looked pretty bad early as well. But, they did start to pick it up towards the end though. In the end though, the Blue jays were just slightly better than the Rays tonight.

The last at bat was intense. Down 2, guys on 1st and 2nd (then double steal 2nd and 3rd!), Escobar gets ahead 2-0 in the count... Then 3 straight perfectly placed sliders for strikes :(

Archer signs 6 year $25.5 mill deal with incentives. Rays are awesome at deals like this.

Hell yes! Archer is not only a great, young pitcher, but also a great person. I am very excited to have this guy locked up for 6-8 years. He even said today he wants this to be the only jersey he wears for the rest of his career. I expect a huge year from him this year. A ~3.00 ERA and 15 wins is not out of the realm of possibility for him. I'll take a guy with 2 amazing pitches every time over a guy with 4 average pitches.

Our offense was horrific tonight. But the ump behind the plate was worse. Everything was a strike for the Blue Jays tonight.

Still though, the Rays hitters have to adjust if the ump expands the strike zones. The Red Sox, Rangers, Cardinals, etc. are all good at adjusting no matter what.

The Rays seem afraid to swing at times. They need to do what they did in the first game. They swung at every strike and help up on every ball. That made Dickey and their bullpen second guess themselves when they were thinking of throwing strikes, and they ended up walking most of our players because of the threat of getting hit, if they threw it in the strike zone.

The umpire behind the plate has been favoring us all game. Lol. There have been some questionable ball/strikes all night in our favor.

That was a fun one to watch!

We locked up Escobar for 3 more years yesterday. Absolute steal of a contract for us. I don't know how our front office keeps coming through with these great deals. The guys must really love playing here and being a part of a winning organization. The new contract guarantees next year's option of $5M, adds '16 at $8M, and has a club option for '17 at $7M, or a $1M buyout. Escobar on the books looks like this:

'14 $5M
'15 $5M
'16 $8M
'17 $7M option, min. $1M

He gave us 3.9 WAR last year (best in the AL for SS). Based on that, Escobar could easily get over $15M/yr in free agency. Gotta appreciate him taking a 50% paycut to allow us to afford him. I saw a twitter post saying actually that he approached our GM asking for an extension. The dude really likes playing here. This team is gonna be reeeally good for a looong time!

I'm really not sure why Molina is still here and playing so many games. He brings nothing that Hanigan can't handle and is a waste of a batter. Thanks for those numbers btw.

Cobb pitched a beautiful game. He actually pitched much better than Darvish. The only problem was our bullpen and offense. We had a few opportunities to score but couldn't convert. Oh well, we'll get them next time.
