Sucks he might again not play enough CF to win a Gold Glove lol since the split is gonna be like 65/35 again for him in CF + LF.

Last time I checked in the game of baseball, a baseball player is still counted on to come to the plate 4 to 5 times a game. When a player like Varsho is a terrible below average hitter (currently hitting below .200), with his tendency to strike out a lot and not get on base- the great defense he provides is worth a lot less when his 4 or 5 plate appearances produce nothing offensively.

I will gladly take an above average hitter at the plate, who is a decent but not exceptional defender in the OF like Gurriel. You can always carry a defensive specialist like Bradley Zimmer for Late Inning Defense, over being saddled with a guy like Varsho who is garbage more times than not 4 to 5 times at the plate offensively.

Gurriel is not a decent defender in the outfield. He still runs like a duck! You can absolutely say you're ok with wanting a good hitter in a corner outfield spot, damn the D. You don't need to say stuff that contradicts what we watched with our own eyes.

His numbers point out that he is a decent to a good defender with a great arm, despite your love for Varsho. Gurriel led all National League Left Fielders in 2023 with 14 Defensive Runs Saved, and his overall defensive rating on Fangraphs was Number 1 in MLB for Left Fielders in 2023. Gurriel gets unfairly lumped with Teoscar in people's memories, since Teoscar was terrible defensively. Gurriel is not on Varsho's level, but his defensive numbers from last year point out that he was actually above average defender. I go by the data and numbers, and not people's subjective bias and "eyes" because they like below average hitting defensive specialists like Varsho.

Last season was his only good year defensively. Did he suddenly figure things out at age 30? His numbers for the Jays lineup with the eye test.

It is possible a change of scenery from Toronto to Arizona made Gurriel figure things out. It is not even about Gurriel anymore. This team needed to acquire a good hitting corner outfielder in LF in the off-season, with Varsho permanently in CF for 2024. However, this organization thought otherwise for some reason.

Kiermaier and his 100/150/100 slashing line back in the starting lineup because he has "good numbers vs stroman" lmao. Gotta love these cretins using a small sample size of 5 games to have him in there while ignoring the 20 games sample size of him being clueless at the plate this season. This guy should not even be starting for a AAA club let alone a major league ball club with playoff aspirations.

Can't wait to see his 4 strikeouts on 12 pitches again.

3rd on the team in WAR in 2024 with a 109 wRC+. If he maintains that level of offense all season, he'll also easily be our most valuable player.

The new Bradley Zimmer though, am I right?

whats up with the strike zone. every outside pitch even remotely close to the strike zone (to right handed batters) are called strikes.
