It'd be weird if we sign a 1B/DH that relegates Horwitz to the minors again. Would he still be a "prospect" at this time next year when he's 27 years old, just by virtue of not having 130 major league ABs?

If only we could trade a #1 postional prospect in the game for Daulton Varsho! Again!

If we trade him for a bag of peanuts it’s apparently a good trade because we still have some excellent pitchers.

Moreno deal is going to rival the Jeff Kent trade back in the day for the worst trade in franchise history. In order to move Gurriel for a left handed bat that had proven almost nothing in the big leagues, they threw in one of the best prospects in all of baseball… and quite possibly yadier molina 2.0 (but with above average foot speed too!)

Going from the worst to the best defensive outfield in baseball while still having one of the best C rotations in the game is not going to go down as the worst trade in franchise history. Some of you guys really need to get a grip on your emotions. Like 6 players hit worse than they did the previous season. That wasn't the fault of trading Moreno for Varsho.

Ummm….. giving up a potential future HOF type catching prospect for someone who looked like they are going to be a 4th OF sooner rather than later ast year. I stand by my original assessment. Just because it was a position of extreme strength when they made the deal, doesnt give them a pass for making a BRUTAL trade. They could have had one of the best defensive OFs with Gurriel, KK and Springer. And an even better catcher rotation if they would have traded either one of their other catchers.

You need to realize just how much better Moreno is than Jansen or Kirk. Not to mention cheaper for longer.

A much smarter move would have been to simply make Kirk the DH and 3rd string catcher Or if they really needed to give up sone of their elite catching depth…trade Jansen since he is closest to FA and would have been selling an asset at its peak. Or, with the game is trying to bring back SBs , trade Kirk since he is the worst at throwing out base runners. Anything but trade away the best catching prospect in all of baseball.

Ricky is going to be a top 2 or 3 starter in a rotation. Wait for Atkins to f it up trading him for a 230 hitter with great defense

Can anyone explain why they only want to apparently use Schneider as a platoon player in the OF? Of all the ways to use the kid, it definitely shouldnt be as half of a platoon. Not unless he’s playing the infield against right handed starters too ffs. The guy hit better off RHP than LHP last year, but didnt struggle against either. He doesnt need to be hidden by a platoon when they face RHP.

I can understand wanting to hide Varsho….but Against RHP where he barely managed to stay above the Mendoza line last year…lol What are they going to do, play Schneider against RHP and Varsho against LHP? Or are they going use them both against the types of pitchers they hit the worst last year?

I really hope that reporter was on drugs, as that idea is utterly ridiculous.

Why? Who gives 2 sh*** about Spencer Horwitz? They wont make any decisions about FA’s based on Horwitz.

Law's top 20 Jays have Tiedemann, Martinez and Nimmala at the top, then, surprisingly Leo Jimenez at #4.

He also rates the Jays' farm system as 20th, because of the failure to generate more MLB-likely talent from relatively good drafting and international signings. Some key players in the system stalled in their development. Brandon Barriera's situation is well known, but Law says the gossip of scouts is that he reported to camp something like 50 pounds overweight. (Law had thought that by this winter, Barriera would be making top 100 lists.)

For this season, Law sees Tiedemann and Addison Barger as the most likely to accede to the major league roster at some point. His sleeper pick for biggest improvement in 2024 is Emmanuel Bonilla, mainly because he has all the attributes to be a plus outfielder, but you couldn't discern much from his age 17 season in the DR.

I think Barger needs to cut down that swing some to take the next step. He has plenty enough power that he doesn’t need to take such an all or nothing hack.

Also, people need to start recognizing how good Alan Roden is. He was a 3rd round pick in 2022 after posting an unbelievable slash line in college of .383/.484/.640 (for an OPS of 1.125!!) over 90+ games and 400+ PAs. Then last year he beat up the minor leagues. He will start his second pro season in either AA or AAA and is already getting regular ABs in spring training this year. Martinez may have the most pop, but Roden may be the best overall (and MLb ready) hitter they have in the minor leagues.
