#Bluejays settle with Emilio Bonifacio at $2.6 million, avoiding arbitration.

Well, that's settled. Only Thole is left. What does our final payroll look like?

Arencibia 0.5
Encarnacion 8.0
Izturis 3.0
Reyes 10.0
Lawrie 0.5
Cabrera 8.0
Rasmus 4.675
Bautista 14.0
Lind 5.0
Thole 1.2(estimated)
Bonifacio 2.6
Davis 2.5
-13th man 0.5(estimated)
Dickey 5.0
Johnson 13.75
Morrow 8.0
Buehrle 11.0
Romero 7.5
Santos 2.75
Janssen 3.9
Delabar 0.5
Rogers 0.5
Oliver 3.0
Cecil 0.5
Happ 3.7

total 120.575 million

Course they may have some of Dickey's signing bonus in this year's budget and the 0.5's are actually all slightly less than that, but 120 million is pretty much it.

IIRC Dickey and AA agreed to rip up Dickey's old contract and start a new one at 30mill/3yrs. So wouldn't he be getting 10 million this year?

The Blue Jays have signed C Josh Thole to a 2-year contract worth $2.5 million with a club option for the 2015 season worth $1.75 million.

There's Thole done

Then it should be. I didn't follow the specifics closely, but Cot's still has him as 5m this year, which could easily be updated later if the deal was a total re-working.

Pretty sure Dickey signed an extension to his previous contract. He only gets $5 million this year.

When the only "Bad" contract on a $120 million team salary is at $5 million like Lind's then you know you have a very good team. At the end of the day a bad $5 million 1 year contract doesn't cripple you.

It's a good looking salary structure that's for sure.

I think Lind has a chance to live up to his contract this season. 5M = 1 fWAR, which is very obtainable for an everyday player. Please note that I don't think Lind should be our long term solution, but rather isn't really a "deadweight" contract.

I believe it's a mixture of both. I believe part of Dickey's deal was a signing bonus applied to 2012 (for tax reasons - residency status). So it's something like (don't quote me on numbers)
December 2012: $5 million signing bonus
2013: $5 million (original salary)
2014: $10 million
2015: $10 million
2016: Club Option

I'm excited we retained all of this guys at decent prices. Happ was a steal IMO.

Agreed, and Thole for 2 years + club option is a steal as well.

Yeah, when your most expensive player is at a vastly underpaid 14/year, you know you're doing something right.

I think with all the support in the lineup, Lind will come out looking better than he actually is.

Maybe that bodes well for a trade down the line?

Yeah, I hope organizations still use RBI's as a base statistic when evaluating trades!

AA said Thole will be in Buffalo to start the year.

The guy we just signed, Henry Blanco, I guess?

When did AA say that Thole would start in AAA? Also, I thought the whole point of getting Thole and Nickeas was to have catchers who could catch the knuckleball. Completly useless to get them in the trade, if w're sticking them in AAA.

Blanco is supposed to have a knack for catching the knuckleball IIRC... and he said they will compete in ST, and didn't rule out Thole starting in AAA. He never slated him to start in AAA, just simply said it is a possibility.

Don't forget Thole is only 26 and if you ignore his concussed numbers, he is better offensively than JPA to this point. It makes sense to still develop him, so AAA makes some sense. I wouldn't rule out him playing over JPA in future years, unless JPA picks it up.
