Would be nice if we claimed Burnett, right? I mean, AA has money, eh?

We won't trade for any of those guys and AA will say they asked for "major league ready talent" or "some of our all-stars".

And Burnett will get dealt for a PTBNL.

Hitting the wire today from the Phillies were Marlon Byrd, Jonathan Papelbon, Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Cole Hamels, and Carlos Ruiz, Rosenthal tweets. They will be on waivers until Wednesday.
- MLBTR

Hamels and Utley wouldn't be bad, eh? 8-)

Burnett is on our radar, that much I know. Whether or not it happens depends on what the Phillies think they can get.
That's what she said.

The Orioles take the lead 4-3 in the 7th.

Arrive. Win by a run. Leave.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Cole Hamels has been claimed off revocable waivers.
But the team that put in the claim has not been identified and, as Rosenthal notes, the Phillies would be far better off trading the ace left-hander in the offseason (when they could engage all 29 teams, not just one). It's not even certain that the Phillies want to part with Hamels, who is under contract through 2018 with an option for 2019. Rosenthal also reports that outfielder Marlon Byrd has been claimed by an unidentified team.

Why is the team(s) that claimed them unidentified? Are there rules regarding that?

Teams might leak out sometimes but in most cases the Phillies can just pull Hamels off waivers because the player offered isn't even worth trading to that team for whichever players offered. This trade deadline coming up is tricky. Usually teams shouldn't be named or leaked out but sometimes it does happen.

The claiming team has 48 hours to work out a trade with the Phillies or the Phillies can just take him off waivers again and keep him.

so john farrell just PH middlebrooks for the pitcher joe kelly (who is adept at bunting, having been a NL pitcher his whole career) in the 9th spot in the order in a 1-1 game with no outs in the top of the 8th, only to have middlebrooks attempt a sacrifice bunt, which failed. burn a bench bat by having him attempt something he is less skilled at than the player he is replacing. the logic. rick sutcliffe was downright bewildered and couldn't comprehend what had just happened. vintage farrellball is what happened, rick.

Bautista outplays his contract by more than $70 million over the next four seasons (2013-2016).

Pestano on his way to the Angels.

The Angels have added yet another reliever to their ranks by acquiring right-hander Vinnie Pestano from the Indians in exchange for minor league righty Michael Clevinger. Both teams have announced the trade.

Look where the ball is...down and away and rather close to the plate. Look where his hands are...he's barely into his swing.

Ball ends up 400 feet away to right-center. That's some bat speed and power.

Royals leading 5-2 in the 5th.

The Royals will be leading a playoff spot after tonight. Having the only team with a longer playoff drought than the Jays winning the 2nd WC would be the ultimate kick in the nuts.

He's a definite improvement over Ibanez against LHP, but man...between Willingham, Ibanez and Butler they have three players who really ought to be DH-only, and none of them are really tearing the cover off the ball this year.
