Doesn't McBroom deserve Lansing too though? If we end up with Dean/Dantzler at Dunedin and Tellez/McBroom at Lansing that's a lot, no? I can't figure out who I'd put at AA though, nor do we really need to push anybody. Seems like at least 1 guy out of this group is going to end up in a package for something or other this offseason.

Even though he didn't have a great deal of success at A+, I would think Dantlzer gets consideration for AA. Not based on his performance, but more to do with his age. Once you get to AA, there isn't much 'prospect depth' at the position either. Hobson and McDade had the most reps at 1B this year.

I don't think any harm would be done by promoting him to start the year.

Also, he finished the season stronger than he started, so there is hope he can contribute well at the Double A level next season.

Dunedin got bounced as expected - they were first half winners when they had guys like Pompey and Norris. They were a much inferior team in the second half.

Vancouver is a different story. They won their playoff opening tonight 1-0. Ryan Borucki threw seven innings of five hit ball with no walks and 4K.

I took MLB's end of season top 20 and turned it into top 10 pitchers and positional (no Hoffman or Stilson, added Castro and Tellez) and did stat totals across leagues just to have a shorthand for how everyone performed this year. Sorted by birth year and highest level.

Nice work. I started a spreadsheet like this in mid-season and was running a comparison with their performance from last year. Never got around to posting it though. Lovin' that pitching depth.

Listen to the John Schneider interview today with Jeff Blair, he says Barretto has a major league plate approach already and wouldn't be out of place if he were two or three levels higher right now, and showed nice improvement defensively. Looks for him to move quickly through the system, Liked Labourt as his best pitchers, felt he took a giant leap forward after being dropped down from Lansing. Also mentioned McBroom, Pentacost and Roemon Fields.

Great stuff. At some point, I'm going to try to do a year-end roundup of everything that could be remotely considered a prospect, of the nature that I used to do monthly because I was insane.

Pentecost's low walk rate and mediocre power numbers worry me. Part of it is small sample size of course...

I know he was never supposed to be much of a heavy bat and is a defense-first catching prospect, but considering his age and that he's labelled a "polished college bat" I'd have hoped for better power numbers at least in the early minors... The walk rate is the real concern honestly.

Kiley McDaniel is now writing for FG and he had a few Jays related comments in his Sep. 3 chat. I don't think they were posted here (sorry if they were)

Comment From Bret
Hey Kiley – do the Jays have anything in Kendall Graveman?

Kiley McDaniel: Eh, kinda. I saw him about a month ago for Dunedin and he was 88-92, touch 93 with plus life, above average changeup with no usable breaking ball, but some feel and an okay cutter. A swing guy/spot start type for now but was never supposed to be this good

Comment From Fish
How about this Pierre fellow the Phils just got from Toronto?
12:18
Kiley McDaniel: Gustavo Pierre, another guy I saw last week in the FSL. He’s 22 and still can’t hit but he’s got a huge arm. Scouts have been saying for years he should go on the mound because he’s a big athletic guy with a live body. Gotta think that’s coming soon.

Don't worry we'll acquire him back when he's making big money as our future closer.

Comment From Bret
It obviously seems like the Jays have rushed several of their prospects this year. I imagine Dalton Pompey isn’t quite big league ready yet, but how far away is he? What’s a reasonable outcome for him?
12:28
Kiley McDaniel: I wrote about this yesterday! http://www.fangraphs.com/bl… I’d send him to AA or AAA for 2015.

Comment From Jays fan
What is your take on Osuna in the Jays system as he tries to re-establish himself post tommy john?
12:59
Kiley McDaniel: Just saw him a couple days ago. Velo is up, 93-96 early, was told he hit 97 in other starts. Cutter flashed plus and slider is 55 as is the change. Delivery is okay but all top half and the command came and went, velo settled in low 90s. He’s improved but not quite sure what this turns into.

Comment From pr
Whose better long term: Norris or Stroman?
1:11
Kiley McDaniel: I’m an irrational Stroman guy but I know a few scouts would say Norris and strongly.

Comment From Eminor3rd
Is Dave Cameron right that high velo guys with command issues are typically overrated? He lists Archie Bradley and Daniel Norris as examples
2:00
Kiley McDaniel: Scouting pitchers is so tied to arm speed this has to be true. There’s so many average stuff guys that are worth a few WAR per year that are never ranked anywhere. It kinda has to be this way, though

Does this mean Dalton Pompey won't be on our playoff roster?

Pentecost was never really considered a defense first catcher.

Was looked at as a prospect with a talented hit tool, good athleticism and a strong arm but could get better defensively.

http://www.minorleagueball.com/2014/9/24/6794669/toronto-blue-jays-top-20-2014-pre-season-prospects-in-review

The Blue Jays were ranked 15th pre-season. Their ranking entering 2015 will certainly rise, perhaps into the elite level given the positive development of the upside talents and a good infusion from the draft class.

It didn't take long for Alex and crew to restock the system after the trades two years ago. Too bad the MLB team did not pan out.

Jays get a consolation prize - Anthony Alford has decided to leave Ole Miss to concentrate on the Jays.
