Wow, SRF is at Lansing? I missed that.

I think they usually call up a couple younger guys for this particular game. I believe Tinoco was pitching too. Tinoco pitched in last year's game as an 18 year old.

There was this too from Blue Jays from Away

Chase De Jong starting tonight, repeating Lansing after a somewhat uneven 2014. 7 Ks, 3 hits, a walk and a run through three.

Final line for De Jong: 4.2 IP, 4 hits (one lost in the lights, apparently), 1 run, 2 walks, 9 strikeouts. Not terribly efficient, but promising stuff given that De Jong's strikeout rate wasn't great in 2014.

Almost the same line so far for Matt Boyd in NH, who has given way to Danny Barnes. Barnes seems to have his health and velocity back, struck out 4 in 1.1 innings.

If Barnes can stay healthy, wouldn't surprise him if he made the majors by June or July. Might not end up as the high-end reliever many envisioned when he was first lighting up A-ball, but he should be able to get swings and misses.

Been listening to the Lugnuts radio broadcast...Tellez has made a couple very good defensive plays at first.

Game 1 of a double header: Lansing with another low-hit 3-2 win.

Starlyn Suriel through five innings of scoreless on-hit ball, striking out 8.

Ryan McBroom had two of Lansing's three hits, including a double.

Dickie Joe Thon knocked in all three runs with a homer

All these young guys with mid to high 90's velocity... we're gonna run out of room in the bullpen right quick.
Nick Nurse recounting his first meeting with Kawhi:
“We could have gone forever. (Raptors management) kept knocking on the door and I was like, ‘A couple more minutes.’ Because we were really into it."

Heh, it's (a small) part of the reason I'm so against pushing Castro into that role: some of our other high-velocity guys are probably not going to develop into starters, but they have stuff that'd likely play at the back end of a bullpen. Sanchez still seems the most likely to end up there, but Tirado may end up a closer, and could be a fast-mover given his fastball/slider combination. The downside of young starters is that many/most won't make it as major league starters...but (as is evident with Baltimore's 'pen) those who fall short can often come good in the 8th and 9th.

I think that's part of the reason why Anthopolous hasn't made drastic trades to improve our pen for this year. It seems as though the system may actually help fill our bullpen in the next few years with the likes of Hoffman, DeJong, Wells, Labourt, Osuna, Castro eventually getting their time as starters very soon. I personally think SRF and Tirado may be great back end of the bullpen arms in the near future as well as Smoral, who could develop into an Andrew Miller like lefty out of the pen.

Speaking of which, Danny Barnes with two perfect innings and 4K for his first save this afternoon at NH. You're right, if he stays healthy, he can move up quickly. Certainly, the relief crew in BUF is comprised of guys like Korecky with no MLB future, so Barnes has a good path ahead if he stays healthy.

If he keeps missing bats (and the weather allows the northern clubs to actually play baseball from time to time), Buffalo by May 1st isn't out of the question. Neither is a promotion straight to the bigs from AA, if the situation necessitates, though he isn't on the 40-man.

I guess that's about the same timescale as what happened with Tirado and Labourt last year, although as IFA's they get more time in the system. Still, seems really aggressive for a kid with 20IP in his draft year at GCL.

We'll see if he lasts past June or goes to Vancouver once their season starts up.

Its not that aggressive for a HS pitcher with first round talent. Tyler Kolek, Kodi Medeiros, Luis Ortiz, Justus Sheffield, Jack Flaherty, Spencer Adams, and Ryan Castellani (all HS pitchers drafted before Reid-Foley) are pitching full-season ball to start this year. That is the majority of the HS pitchers that were selected leading up to SRF.
